Need some smarter than me to explain the possible logic behind releasing during the week of thanksgiving…
It just seems so weird. Why not start pre patch next week, then release the expansion on the 17th…
Like, I know a lot of thanksgiving events are cancelled because of Covid etc. but some people are still going to drive to places to see there families, blizzard employs I’m sure still want the holiday off…it just seems to be better for everyone to not release on a week people normally travel.
I can’t really think of why not…pre patch event according to them Was ready and they were just waiting…so why not flip the switch to give an entire week and a half before the holiday to fix any release issues.
Edit to add what I think is reasonable:
My thing would be, if the 17th is too early, why even do the 23rd?
If it’s the “2020” date then just delay the raid…they aren’t legally obligated to drop that content like they would be to drop the expansion.
Push it back the week after, release normal and heroic on the eighth or 15th of December. Delay mythic release until after Christmas (just a week delay). Let the hard working employs enjoy their vacations and as dumb as it sounds, don’t make it a choice between WoW and seeing family.

For the same reason that you probably don’t shower everyday since the quarantine started… because you can

Because they have to legally release it in 2020 and they cannot avoid holidays at this point, or face legal consequences.

They don’t care about their employees. You are all complaining about possibly having to choose between playing a video game and Thanksgiving? Their employees likely don’t have a choice on whether they take that day off or not. I would assume they would want full staff to handle possible release issues that week.

The 17th gives an entire week and a half before thanksgiving. Releasing the raid on the first of December gives 3 1/2 weeks to progress right?

It’s probably something like this.
No matter what they do something is gonna run it to holiday time.
And there was no chance of a 2021 date.
Bro… 11/24 the game will probably be a mess. Riddled with bugs and other issues. Please don’t have them push it up anymore. They should have released early December and dropped the raids 2021

Some people’s thanksgiving starts earlier then that, driving out to meet with relatives and family so it will affect someone no matter what.
That’s not true. Warcraft 3 Reforged proved there was a chance
That was the point of my post…the week before seems so much more reasonable, hell even the week after thanksgiving and raid in January seems better.
It’s almost like intentionally choosing the worst date for both release than raid release.

yes exactly. its so obvious that one would think that maybe if they didnt do that they had to have had some reason that would prevent them from doing that. perhaps something that would warrant a delay from its original october 26 release date?
No way man.
There was no chance they’d let a major expansion release get delayed into next year.
It would run into Xmas anyway and people with xmas plans would feel left out an on early start.
Yea I’m lucky, I’ll miss release day but back from seeing family Wednesday night. So I’m not missing anything crazy. But some people travel that entire week/weekend.
This is what you guys wanted.
As I said in another thread, do you guys not realize that it was virtually impossible for Blizzard to not release the game on/close to the Holiday season? Once the October mark was missed, it was either getting the game out by the end of the year, which everyone was bemoaning about for weeks, or staying in prepatch limbo until January. I can tell you right now the latter would have caused so much more outrage (although I can’t really tell anymore. You guys seem to flip flop your emotions to suit your outrage at Blizzard). From November to the end of the year, there’s some sort of Holiday occurring for someone every week.
I seriously don’t understand how miserable most of you have to feel to always feel upset at Blizzard over something. If you can’t have the willpower to not play the game for a couple days, then it says a lot more about you than it does Blizzard.

I would agree if they say, dropped it Christmas week…like okay that’s the earliest they could pull it off…but they delayed the expansion and chose that date to release while only getting a little under a month of extra time?
How much is actually hurt by either pushing it a week forward or back
Hrm…it’s almost like they delayed release to be sure the expansion was in better shape before releasing it and that defined the timeline.

alot can happen in 7 days. especially in an industry reliant on crunch
The point of the delay was more time to work on Shadowlands. The 16th means less time and they don’t think it’ll be ready by then, or it would have been the date.
The 23rd is the last time they can realistically do it and start up the raid season on this year. While still avoiding Christmas and extra delays on that. So it’s like the 16th is too early and December is too late. Just leaves the 23rd. It’s either this or hold everything back until mid-January like 8.3.
