I think it is odd that I don’t see that many people do world quests anymore. I don’t know if it is phasing or if it is loss of interest, or even the quality of the world quests. World quests were introduced in Legion to combat the emptiness of the zones back in Lobbylords of Draenor, since everyone just queued up for everything from their Garrison. Due to their home mines and gardens, they had no real reason to traverse the world for materials, either.
But, despite everything, people still sit in cities and queue. Even with the hourly events that pop up, people do it and then leave. And the worst part: people completely stop doing these events once the gear is obsolete, unless they want to do a tedious renown grind…
People complain about the world feeling empty, but honestly, I think people prefer it like this anyway based solely on how they play the game.
Though, I wont deny the thrill I get when I do an event with a ton of other random players (Legion pre-patch was AMAZING).
I can attest to this. I level through dungeon spam while city sitting. Not only does it keep me on my feet more than questing, it helps me practice my class way better. It is also far less boring than questing, even if I’ve done the dungeon a million times.
The game has its moments, Blizzard does try to get people to do stuff together sometimes, it usually lasts a couple weeks and then everyone goes their own way again. I appreciate the game letting people do their own thing no matter how they play, but really it is lobby-lite game. That isn’t bad though. I prefer being able to queue on the fly for things.
“WoW has changed into a lobby game. But its based on ignoring most of the content. And I am sure no one is actually doing it, but hypothetically they could. So that makes WoW a lobby game”
Legion WQ - many up at once, premade grouping add-on to instant group, most with short and straight forward objectives, better relevant rewards including TF gear.
TWW WQ - few up at once, only easy grouping for the WB, many with longer objectives or annoyances like no mobs / slow respawns, and mostly useless rewards.
tbf i came in during shadowlands and if it weren’t for classic id be gone. im only 5 years old in wow age but retail kinda sucks lol. there’s some fun to be had but its pretty bad experience. id say classic >ffxiv >retail
it’s weird a lot of people say this but were also the same people that praised it and talk about the good old days… yeah it’s the the same game people apparently hate lmao.
And its weird the amount of classic players that feel obligated to spend time on the retail forums, and dont really add anything other than “retail sucks”.
I never praised classic. Even when it was contemporary.
I am happy its there for people that enjoy it. But I dont have the silliness of hanging out on the classic boards telling everyone else they are wrong.
I’ve tried classic and played through TBCC and WotLKC. I’ve raid logged the entire time and I was pretty actively offput by how tedious anything that wasn’t raiding or arena was.
nah i play both but mostly classic. retail has way too much dead content and it’s mostly about doing m+ as oppose to the journey of classic.
at least i can attempt to do some raids with people and not be told to go solo them as a healer lmao.
yes because i said that they needed a looking for raid similar to how ffxiv does it. you can just pick a raid and q. unless im not seeing it, i can’t pick a raid here from older expansions and was told “no one likes to do old content” thus we have all these raids just sitting. others game have ways to make old content relative. retail fails massively here.
Classic doesnt do this either. In WotLK classic running Molten Core is not relevant.
Other MMOs dont have as many raids as WoW.
This seems like an unfair slight on WoW.
I dont want to play FFXIV. I find it to be lesser game. I am ok with WoW not spending resources to try to have its gameplay and content more like FFXIV.
yes but retail has chromie time where you can do old dungeons for a while until the threshold. why can’t raids be a thing? you’re still doing ‘old content’ when you level.
i’m not sure why that matters? add them all to a raid finder then?
that’s fine. i’m not a huge fan of xiv myself anymore but i’m not gonna sit here and say they don’t have better ways of approaching old content. nothings “gameplay” or “content” changing by adding raids to a finder besides more options for fun lol.
There is no social aspect in retail anymore. Any sense of community died years ago when they brought in things like gear scores, Mythic, connected realms and all that stuff. Housing definitely isn’t going to fix it. Classic HC still has that old-school social vibe and community feel - because you literally have to socialize and work together if you want to survive or get anywhere, and a realm actually means something - you know the people in your community, just like back in the original classic days.
They’d need to completely overhaul retail if they wanted to bring back any kind of social element, and that’s just not gonna happen.
You get timewalking raids as well. You do not need all the raids to be timewalking because the approach is the opposite: content from 2+ expansions ago is soloable no matter if you’re a healer, a dps, a tank or didn’t put in any talent points.
Nobody cares about “muh jurney” you see. It’s irrelevant to the end game which is the only reason to even bother with any flavor of wow.
