Please Don’t Ghost Us, Blizzard

I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed by the lack of any announcement about the future of MoP Classic at BlizzCon.

And honestly, the biggest issue for me isn’t even that we didn’t get a WoD Classic announcement, or whatever else might come next. It’s the complete lack of communication.

We’ve heard basically nothing about what happens after MoP Classic. As BlizzCon got closer and Blizzard continued to stay quiet, I think it was pretty reasonable to assume that BlizzCon was probably where we’d finally get some answers. Then the Opening Ceremony came and went, the WoW panels were revealed to be focused on Midnight, and we’re still sitting here wondering what’s going on.

At this point, I don’t even need Blizzard to tell me the answer I want to hear. I just want them to tell us something.

I’ve been a Blizzard fan for almost 20 years. I’ve played their games for a huge portion of my life, and I was also a big-time Heroes of the Storm player. Because of what happened with that game, prolonged silence from Blizzard about the future of something I’ve invested a lot of time into doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

I’ve poured a lot of time and effort into Classic because, after watching Blizzard go from Classic to TBC to Wrath to Cataclysm and then MoP, I thought we were essentially going through this journey a second time. I figured WoD would eventually follow. And if Blizzard decided WoD wasn’t the direction they wanted to go, then maybe this progression would turn into some form of Classic+ instead.

Either of those would be fine with me. Even hearing that Blizzard has decided not to continue this progression would at least be an answer.

What bothers me is being left wondering.

I sometimes give my guild members a hard time when they no-call/no-show for a raid, and right now that’s kind of what this feels like. MoP Classic players showed up, put in the time, built guilds and communities, geared characters, and continued along this progression with the expectation that there would eventually be some indication of what comes next.

And Blizzard just… hasn’t shown up to tell us.

Maybe there are plans that simply aren’t ready to be announced yet. That’s completely understandable. But if that’s the case, just say that. Tell us, “We haven’t forgotten about progression Classic. We’re working on what comes next, and we’ll have more to share later.”

That’s enough.

And if there isn’t anything coming next, please tell us that too. I’d rather hear disappointing news directly than spend months wondering whether the silence means something is coming or whether the game I’ve invested all this time into simply doesn’t have a future.

I’m not asking Blizzard to promise us WoD Classic. I’m not asking them to announce something before it’s ready.

I’m just asking them to communicate with us.

After all these years supporting Blizzard games, I don’t think that’s an unreasonable thing to ask.

Anyone expecting “WoD classic” was already drowning in copium to begin with.

Eh, we knew this was happening. I’ll go to classic+ and ride that out for a while. Go buy that $50 package and call it a day guys.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was ‘expecting’ anything in particular, though patterns are a thing right?

What I was expecting was decency, to which this silence is not.

Blizzcon isn’t over yet, you posted this 2 days early.

Fair point, this post is a call for them to not ghost us as they have in the past with other games. If they do not do that, I will certainly withdraw my concern.

Feels like actual manipulation, at this point… They put out Cata + MoP + Anniversary, barely fix any bugs, barely support them in general. So just years of barely any communication or support. But then hey guys new shiny thing!!! Pay money now!! Who’s to say they won’t ghost everyone for Forever as well?

They do still have a day. But I’m very tired of companies acting like they never have to acknowledge anything or communicate when the playerbase wants answers or even any info at all.

If they don’t mention or post anything concrete on classic progression, I’m ending my sub immediately and my guaranteed trying of “Forever” becomes a maybe leaning towards never.

For the record, I’m not saying “Blizzard failed to communicate with us at BlizzCon”, I know it’s not over, but they know there are a decent group of us that is waiting to here, even making us wait this long is not nice.

they’ll make a 1 sentence blue post after blizzcon is over. Don’t worry.

there’s no event left where it’d make sense for them to talk about it, so you are correct to be concerned

I feel disrespected. I payed for this service for 7 years and they can’t even communicate what’s going to happen next.

100% this. I came to classic in Cata to play MoP with hopes of getting WoD.. If it ends here, i think im done with Blizzard anymore. I completely lost interest in retail and honestly forever doesn’t look too appealing.

I loved Simon and Garfunkle when I was growing up. But the sounds of silence do not work as well for Blizzard as for them.

I totally agree with the OP, in game all I’m seeing is “any announcements made about mop classic? or WOD?” They know people want answers about the future of classic progression servers so to me it seems like silence is very telling.
