They or someone they love gets coronavirus and has to be away from the game for 2 months. Work. Active duty. LIFE. Is it so hard to imagine a world where people get pulled away from the game for things that take precedence? And then when they come back, they don’t necessarily expect to just be on par with everyone else, they want to work for this, but the time gating is a huge issue.
Nobody is asking for free stuff. They’re asking to be able to work a reasonable amount to catch up to the rest of the people playing this game. Because it is an MMO. That means people play together. Fewer people are behind on the gearing curve and that means it’s harder to play with people, which is generally the point of an MMO.
Masks are not tied to echoes, derp derp. Is it better to mask run for momentos? Sure, but we aren’t talking about the requirements for that in this thread.
2 weeks before pre patch all cloaks be 125 cap most likely just as they did with artifacts
But in those 2 weeks if you never did bother grinding echoes in visions/raids (if you didn’t kill N’Zoth for upgrade you didn’t get echoes in any boss period), then you don’t have enough to buy the affixes
So at the end of the day you would have never been equal as the guy who did his mile all because refusal to even do a vision/N’Zoth raid

Until getting the cloak max cap is simple as saving 12 turtles, expecting handouts will keep being demanded
Stop using this argument against a better core catchup system. Keeping your cloak at max resist week to week is minimal effort. One could log in once per week for 45 minutes to do a major assault and zero mask clear to get the core (which by time your cloak is max has zero risk of failing) and then not log in for one week. Are you seriously arguing that someone grinding daily quests/minor visions for CVs, raiding for Nzoth kills, and mythics for echoes to buy vessels until caught up is less work?
I will even break it down for you. The sources of all my current gear. Highest to lowest.
Wep - 475 m15 cache, wep 445 normal Wrathion.
Pants 470 5 mask
Trink 465 M15, 460 Herioc
Azerite - Googles (465) and 2 Titan Res buys 465 (15 cache gives 2150)
Ring 460 M8 Cache, 460 Herioc.
Bracers Assault 445
Gloves 455 M8 EOD
Belt 430 M0
Neck and cloak both 500. All that done, very very easily in 2 weeks. Ran 3 M0s when came back, Ran a 8 key and a Normal week 1, and worked on Cloak ect. Came back on a Friday.
Week 2 did a 15, and a Heroic.
Thats it, and thats what I got AND with crap RNG. I have 4 pairs of pants 460+ and 3 Rings, 3 trinkets. Still aint got my Raden Weps, (did Heroic Raden both weeks, but just Raden and got no loot).
My Ilvl will shoot up even faster once I get out of the slog and have time to do M+ Spam. I still need all essences and such, so I pretty much do dailies all day, and carve out fun play the little I can. Not hard man, IF you have friends that no your value and well help you get caught up so you can be valuable again. As my value was low in alot of that content lol, with no corruption and crap gear and low essences.

Whether I am telling the truth or not (Which I am, I have no reason to lie lololol) that is an example of a FACEROLL gear set. I did an 8 and a 15, and was pretty carried through that. My tank did more damage then me with her 6 TD.
If you think its hard to get 460+ pieces today, you must not play the game…
Look at the M+ end of Dungeon rewards, Warfront gives 460, the mythic quest gives the Herioc cache, Mask runs 460, Assaults 445. Its SUPER easy to gear ATM.
To be fair the expansion was over as soon as they announced the new expansion so not sure why anyone cares much about the cloak. I only have it on one character and that one is stuck on level one since I do not even want to bother grinding it at all.
None of my alts even have the cloak since I do not want to waste the time getting it.
I am now just waiting for the new expansion to launch to see if it is even worth buying it.

Literally everything but the 15 key is faceroll content. The 15 key, and Heroic Clear are from again, having friends who know you are skilled and want to help you so you can participate.
Maybe not everyone cares about gear? I really dont know, all I know is MY situation and what I have got and how fast I have got it.
Brought 2 other friends back from classic this week, they are 437 and 431 respectively and they just came on Saturday. We will see if they are in the mid 460s next week, but again my money is on Yes.
I’m very sorry, but once again. Last time I had a main char shown in GD, I was stalked for months by a crazzy on here. That Xfered to my server and talked trash 24/7. Took 3 different tickets to get the guy away from me.
Then last year, my poop talking made some kid so mad he had me swatted and called cps on me. I am sorry, but I am going to safeguard my self better these days. I am barely allowed to play wow as it is, due to those things my Wife is not happy with this community. Not saying you will do those things, you probably wont, its just my “Rules” set forth by the wifey. I am not even supposed to talk in global chats anymore (I still do, but shhhh)
He wasnt 15, I dont think. I actually do not know anything about the guy, other than his character names, and that he sounded older in disc. (word of mouth, I never spoke to him)
We had some guild drama, and a few semi long term friends parted ways, with small bits of RL info of mine that they gathered in Day to Day of being guildies.
They joined a new guild, with this dude, and then thought it funny to “Dox” me, this random kid, that I upset in Chat, that was in the guild took the info and took it and thought it funny to do what he did.
We live in a small town, so it wasn’t that bad of an ordeal, cops did come out but not guns blazing. CPS did come, but my kids are cared for fine. So not much damage done, but its still scary, and still beyond acceptable.
He even bragged about his actions in global chats, havent seen him sense but I was forced to take a break from the game for awhile after that, and then allowed to go to Classic, with stipulations.
