I really wish they would leave a TBC server up, I actually really enjoy the expansion and would love to be able to log in from time to time and do some battlegrounds.
I believe there should be a legacy server (PVE and PVP) for each expansion and have done with that. Non-progressed, of course.
Would love to have the cloning option from xpac to xpac, but I would definitely settle for fresh rolls on discrete expansion based servers
I mean… It would be interesting to explore the idea of not progressing the current TBCC realms to wrath, and instead offering a fresh wrath experience with prebuilt level 68 or 70 characters on fresh realms instead…
I don’t think anyone genuinely wants to level through both vanilla and TBC’s content in order to reach wrath… Especially when there may be alternative options for them to play that content on servers which are more specific to each expansion, respectively.
OP is absolutely right though. That would require some semblance of realm consolidation to prevent any expansion specific experience to feel as fragmented as era realms are currently. I think Blizzard’s concern is that players are going to try to build themselves a raid schedule where they’re raiding every night of the week in disparate eras.
Personally, I just want to be able to recollect the progress my character has made over the course of the journey from 60 to 70…
Honestly, I think the character-cloning service is all you need. Just offer free transfers to the one or two remaining TBC servers, and “clone” your characters on the Wrath servers (or vice-versa).
Everyone knows Wrath is going to be the most popular expansion. But it shouldn’t be the ONLY one.
Having done it in retail, I just prefer a lock-in to the “era(s)” of your choice
They have no excuse except they simply don’t want to - which is certainly their right - but I guess “the tens of players” they expressed concern for earlier on doesnt apply to TBC.
Which is a damn shame really.
I cant think of a single reason at least one TBC forever realm to exist for those players and there would no doubt be some crossover between Classic ERA and TBC. You could conceivably play both if that was an option.
We need a permanent TBC realm, people are going to want to experience it again just like they are doing it now even though the game is +10 years old.
Honestly yeah, I REALLY hope there’s some chance Blizzard might allow a TBC server to remain intact.
Even if it just remains static and doesn’t really see any new additions or anything, I just think there NEEDS to be a way of experiencing TBC as it was. That’s literally the entire point of bringing back Classic servers to begin with.
Besides, it might be kind of cool if maybe every couple of months, you could do a community-event like “hey, on X date, we’re going to put together a couple of groups for Black Temple to carry folks who never really got to experience it”, stuff like that.
I’m a radical consolidationist. there should be just 1 server for each expansion, a pvp one. carebears can get over it imo
I mean, that’s certainly better than no servers at all. I’d probably say the ideal is one PvP and one PvE, but as long as the content is there, that’s the most important thing.
I loved this. No crying. No demeaning of devs. It was just chock full of bright and well thought out ideas that were clearly communicated.
10/10
Great video…
It’s a nice perch for Terry.
That way he doesn’t need to get greedy and come looking for a place to sit in Nethergarde Keep or Dreadmaul Hold.
So to join the legacy servers for Era there should be one of each type (or connections) for TBCC and Wrath in their turn. Agreed.
Really, really hope there’s ANY possibility they might keep a version of TBC up and running…
Well, considering it is officially listed as “Wrath Classic” and any mention of TBC is completely removed… I gotta say, that really sucks.
Honestly, that kind of kills ANY incentive I have to play WoW Classic anymore. If they’re just going to move everyone to “Cataclysm classic” next year, I can’t imagine anyone being excited about that.
I mean honestly, it even makes me question if VANILLA is going to be maintained long-term. What confidence can we really have that they won’t just decide “we prefer people playing on retail actually” and just migrate EVERYONE to Dragonflight and remove Classic completely?
I’m not going to invest time and energy in an MMO I don’t have confidence my investment is going to be maintained.
The idea of multiple servers is outdated, if you level on one of the new servers or lower pop, 3 months into the game release, the game will die and you will be forced to transfer. Saying this is a player created problem, and to level on a lower pop server is terrible game design, blizzard SHOULD know better. Layer the realms and be done with these queues, done with the low pop servers like it seems so obvious, I feel like im taking crazy pills here. Blue steel, latigra magnum, theyre all the same look! LOL
I would agree that I don’t think having a ton of separate servers is strictly necessary anymore, but I’ll concede that as an older game made WITH servers in mind, it might be more difficult to change that than it would seem.
That said, it’s absolutely an issue that in a couple of months, there will ONLY be two high-population servers (one Horde, one Alliance), and then everyone else is just spread across these dead servers that require a ton of money to transfer your characters back to those “active servers”.
Still, I’m honestly just so disappointed with Blizzard about this decision. They’re completely removing TBC, and it feels like there’s little to no regard for anyone who might want to actually play that expansion as it was. Hell, I assume the Draenei’s “Goatee” option is messed up all over again (kind of a niche issue, but one that affected me directly).
I REALLY wish they would at least open up some communication with us.
Can’t have that. As soon as they confirm or deny anything then they lose a ton of subscriptions. I’d instantly cancel my sub if they told us they were going to move everyone to Cata some day.
i have to agree that i want tbc to still be playable, i never played tbc back in the day so when i tried this for the first time i really like how ret paladin played with the twisting mechanic with your seals it felt so different and fun to me and in wraith it completely changes from that gameplay and id rather not have to play a version that i dont want to after putting time leveling the character. Like someone mentioned before this isnt retail we shouldn’t be forced to play expansion to expansion if we dont want to
Thank you for your post. I am disheartened by the removal of TBC. Blizzard offered this new cloning service which to many was an amazing option. All your hard work on gear, titles, mounts, ect, we’re kept on a character that could stay in their prime and you could also start a new journey in the next expansion. Instead we are met with the removal of tbc all together. All the effort put into gear, collectibles, titles, rating was basically a waste. I get this feeling every time blizzard comes out with a new retail expansion: why did I put in the effort to do that raid and get that best in slot piece or legendary when in a few months it’s going to be left in my bank or sold for 10 gold? Utterly disappointing to give us TBC again and then get rid of it. I would have played the game differently, had I known my efforts were going to be made worthless.
