With several upgrade ranks of five levels or less, it is both tedious and expensive to upgrade all heirloom items. Especially nowadays that five levels is a sneeze and a half! (Joke)
I would like to request that heirlooms get the following update:
Level 1 heirlooms: All new and existing heirlooms that are not SL-grade automatically go to a max level of 50
Level 2: Are upgradable to level 60 for 1000 gold, 2500 if weapon
Level 3: Are upgradable to level 70 for 3000 gold, or 7500 if weapon.
Wish: I would also appreciate an item that would allow you to purchase all vendor heirlooms. Please make another item which would upgrade all unlocked heirlooms to level 3. The cost of this item should be 90% of the remaining cost to upgrade all unlocked heirlooms to level 3.
So far, I have been pleased with the heirlooms. My only qualm is that upgrading them all feels very tedious.
Make no changes to the price of anything, get rid of loom upgrade items and let people upgrade them at a NPC ala pvp gear upgrade guy in Shadowlands. You can upgrade all the way up to max with just 3 clicks: select item, select upgrade level, click apply.
Edit: New feature!
Let people put multiple items in the window at a time and upgrade multiple at once.
Edit: New New Feature!
Add an update all to max button
Since the nerf and removal of experience along with the questionable value of certain slots in certain expacs (legion and weapons for instance) the prices for upgrades and even base heirlooms no longer make sense.
They no longer provide the type of advantage they once did and given the level squish having so many upgrades also doesn’t make sense.
Put plainly they no longer should command the price they have. I think consolidating upgrades also makes sense but I think the base items and upgrades should have costs slashed by half. They are not an effective gold sink for auction goblins and those who command truly large sums of money as well as not something many non-alt loving players care to invest in so their current price as a gold sink has a negligible or meaningless effect on gold inflation.
However they do cost enough to be punishing for new and existing players. Totaling up to hundreds of thousands of gold to buy complete sets for every armor/stat type plus upgrade them.
Sadly I think the final word on this is likely that Blizzard gave in by keeping them at all when they wanted to get rid of them and as a consequence of that and their resentment for it have no interest in re-evaluating them.
I like that idea. Buy the base piece then turn it over to a npc for the proper upgrade. That’s one aspect of the shadowlands that I do like. You earn a currency like valor then spend it to upgrade individual pieces.
If you have a few characters that can access Nazjatar, you can loot a 22 slot BoA bag to fill out your alt’s inventory. Not as handy as having a bag on the heirloom tab, but still pretty nice.
How about they just make it so heirlooms only go up to the previous expansion’s level cap and be done with it? For DF that would mean all heirlooms would be useful till level 60, where all buffs gained would be turned off once hitting 60. For the expansion after DF, they would be automatically upgraded to level 70, and so on and so forth. Having to upgrade heirlooms is an old mechanic, and frankly expensive. I think I’ve only upgraded a couple of things to rank 2, and immediately stopped. It’s not worth it anymore.
It’s so tedious. I would rather have an item increase in gold every expac and go up in level and the item remain the same than having to fart around with the vendor.
I think the fact that these cost anything more than the initial price is superfluous and very expensive for an average player. let’s get rid of them costing money to upgrade all together as they no longer provide the same useful bonus as they have done in the past. Let them auto scale based on your highest character level and at the end of an expansion auto max level if you have a max level toon. Bam! Solved =) There is functionally no difference between many of these sets belonging to the same armor class besides appearances, which can just be transmogged, so why require us to upgrade each item?
I really wish I hadn’t spent all my gold on heirloom upgrades I won’t even be using for long… You level so quickly it hardly seems to matter. And with item and quest rewards leveling to match you, heirlooms seem like less an advantage all the time.
It’s too late for me, save yourselves! Don’t buy heirloom gear upgrades! (real reason why I bothered with heirlooms? Consistent transmog as I level. I am that petty.)
