OK so I LOVE the new equipment and the Walter Strider change. That’s not what I’m here to talk about though.
I’m here to talk about the letter we receive on patch 8.2 saying that the Anglers did experiments on Walter Striders leading to damage on the entire Walter Strider population so that they can’t walk on water anymore.
That’s just wrong on so many levels, both morally and scientifically.
How would a small bunch of fishermen experiment on every single member of an entire species?
So here’s my suggestion: After all the leveling and item hoarding, with our crescent toy boxes and heirlooms and stuff, we got too heavy and the Walter Strider can no longer sustain waterwalking with us mounted on it.
No animals are harmed. No fishermen are turned into evil mad scientists. Win-Win
I’m pleasantly surprised they addressed it in game at all.
Nice.
The Walter Strider? Is that the original water striders dad or something?

They were too. I did it. Behold! Yet another of my brilliantly evil plans of ultimate devastation!
It was I, Göstav Von Felbottom (no laughing) who convinced the anglers to experiment on their bugs and it was I that used a grand device to round up the entire population!
Why did I do this, you ask? Because I am the most evilest!
Stupid bug boys… I never got water walking.
You didn’t hear that last part.
They should just say the entire playerbase gain so much weight from MacRonald or something, to the point Water Strider cant carry them thru water anymore.
That would explain why the wild one still able to walk on water.
Pff!
Sorry!
Think of the children! Don’t be evil!

But forsaken children are evil.
Also… be grateful that you are covered in tentacles, for no one laughs at Göstav and gets away with it!
…except you apparently.

I am surprised they did that. I mean they never gave a lore reason for taking flight away.

That one is implied by the Pathfinder achievement.
Basically we are too scared of flying on a land we don’t know well enough. Who knows, maybe there’s an enemy gun behind that bush ready to shoot me out of the sky?
/chicken @ myself
Their lore reasoning makes as much sense as their game reasoning so it fits.
“Hey we suddenly screwed everything up! You’re welcome!”
I don’t even know what is the Walter Strider change
so I can careless since I don’t know what are you talking about

They changed the Walter Strider so it can’t Walterwalk anymore
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRR, and stick with me here, this is gonna get long winded.
They could just leave the water strider alone.

How does one get a Walter Strider? I want one!
what the mount everyone are using to ride on water?
again I can careless since I don’t have that specific mount
a) This would only effect the next generation not the existing ones.
b) But letting you buy swimmies to let your 20,000 lb brontosaurus (or Water Strider) walk on water somehow makes sense
c) What more can you really expect from these writers though?

It’s not hard for humans to affect a species. If water striders only naturally occur in the wild in Pandaria maybe they introduced a new chemical to the water that reached a large part of the population. Then as they reproduce and die off none have it. Just like introducing chemicals to rivers to make invasive species sterile (sort of) which is a thing wildlife managers actually do.
Again, only further generations. Like DDT causing bird egg shells to weaken and increase infant mortality.
Would not effect existing Water Striders who have spent the time between MoP and BFA traveling to alternate planets and dimensions as well as previously unknown and unexplored islands distanced from Nat Pagle in Dread Wastes.
Stupid is stupid which is why subs are dropping and stocks are too!
You should expect and demand better.
Depends on where they did it though. Did they also do it in BfA zones?
