Let’s be honest. No one likes it. It’s useless in pvp aside from some cases in battle grounds. And also useless in pve if people don’t die. Complete waste. Not fun and boring. Why add something no one enjoys or cares about. Please, this is the time to make the spec not awful. Some of the changes are good like sac returning and WoA being baseline but those are things that we really need to actually function as a spec. I would much rather have seals than auras. Or just give us both. If not change the ret aura please. Would be much better if it was like our secondary stats go up the lower our party members health drops or our cds are reduced in an attempt to prevent our allies from dying.
No thanks. It’s fine how it is. It’s better to not have an Aura that would be an absolute go-to for pretty much everything, like stats. I like having different Auras for different scenarios.
i mean what are the chances they go a 3rd expansion in a row being told that retribution is bad (even in aura form)
Retribution is actually fun. It’s primarily a random BG ability. There’s a reason Rets have been an S tier BG class for years.
its not even remotely fun. ive never enjoyed it and i never will. like inquisition. it needs to be replaced as a talent and be out of the game again. real good reason why it was removed.
Perhaps you should become a primary PvPer before asking for abilities that were designed for PvP to be removed.
sure. how about this, remove retribution from pve.
How are you gonna tell someone to become a primary pvper and say the aura is a “S” tier ability in bgs like any real pvper actually takes bgs seriously? It’s useless in arenas. Having different options is fine but having one less option because it’s not usable in most game content is not.
That’s what Paladin wanted, I was always against it, because people are getting real spells while we get useless auras.
There’s literally no downside to having Retribution. Like actually none. It’s purely an addition to flavor for the spec. Not sure why you’re trying to get more things pruned from us.
Except that BGs are the most played form of PvP in the game? And they’re fun to do? To just chill and have fun. Retribution makes Ret very strong in BGs. I’d rather be strong, than not. So I’m not seeing the problem here.
It’s a BG ability. Just like Ultimate Retribution.
Not all abilities and talents were added with the thought of Arena or PvE in mind.
there is a downside. its stupid. it feels bad to get a high parse in raid because someone died at the right time. or you coordinated a shaman to die on purpose and ankh during your crusade.
From what I understand they actually make balancing around it with us having retribution proc in mind. I dunno if that’s true or not. It’s a fun flavor ability that was far more toxic in legion but it does make ret certainly interesting in raid but I have never really cared about parses so I can’t say if I really want it removed or not. In regards to OP, I dunno if I like that retribution aura either, I do like the idea of auras coming back to give us more utility, but I think your suggestion would make us take retribution aura always. I would rather they removed it and gave us like blessing or might back but whatever.
It has many uses, a big one being if a rogue puts poisons on you, you can keep them in combat because ret aura will do ticking damage to them
If it stops us from getting something else that can be more useful then yes, that’s a down. Keyword is if tho.
Do you have a link with statistics? If not then this claim is nothing more than a personal opinion which is a terrible thing to have from a game designers perspective because what’s fun for one person can be terrible and boring to others. [quote=“Jawah-moon-guard, post:10, topic:490984”]

Abilities should be applicable to all forms of game content with very few as exceptions. LoH for example. Talents are meant to be customizable for the content you’re doing. If they wanna make ret aura a pvp talent like it is now, that would be a different story. Yet no one uses it cause it’s useless outside of bgs.
The big problem is how do you balance something that buffs you when your allies die? Do you balance around not getting it and then we’re broken when people do die? Do you balance it around people dying and then we’re weak when people don’t die?
Ret will probably be good in shadowlands. It’s not really bad now.
It depends on what you define as bad. Is it viable? Yes. Is it fun? I think most of us agree it’s not. The lack of things the spec has compared to others also makes the player experience worse because not many people wanna play with us. Ret doesn’t excel at anything so people have preferences to play with that isn’t ret.
I guess in Aura form it could be. Priorly, no. But Ret Auras current iteration is better than anything else people have brainstormed and said thus far.
I was personally hoping for it to be a mix of its old effect + Classic’s Eye for an Eye.
Lol.
…And? Not even defending Blizzard here, but you should know that it’s impossible to please everyone. If they changed Ret Aura into a boring stat buff, maybe you would like it more, but I would hate it.
Besides, Blizz needs to add spells and abilities for all players of a spec or class. If Blizz chooses to only focus on group of players, then every other group suffers.
For example, when all the specs were redesigned and balanced around M+, the game lost a lot of each individual class’s identity.
There’s nothing stopping you from using Ret Aura in PvE, lol. It will be a 12 second Avenging Wrath. It will allow for you to pump for 12 seconds to make up for your dead teammate, while he gets Brezzed and resets himself.
People die a lot in M+ and raids. It will definitely have usage, if you use it.
It is but you can increase the amount of people pleased by implementing things based around what game content the largest group of players do
So how many people are gonna suffer from this ret aura considering most people are complaining about it because they see it as useless and boring?
Not all mythic+ groups have a brez. And if they don’t and it’s a tank or healer that dies, group is most likely gonna end up in a wipe. Wings isn’t gonna prevent that. It’s useful in a Raid if people die but I’m not a raider so I don’t wanna give my opinion on something I don’t do. Regardless I’ve seen other raiders talk about how it’s really inconsistent. Decent-good parces because someone died? It’s honestly arenas that bug me most about it but over all I think they can implement something better. Doesn’t have to be a stat boost, just something that’s consistent or that can happen whenever. Like maybe a nerfed divine purpose for ret aura would be nice or more abilities generate holy power.
It has its moments when it’s fun still. Ret/disc is a lot of fun to the point that I’ve been spam qing with my undergeared disc friends. Ret still has a lot of utility that makes people want to play with us in pretty much every form of the game other than rated bgs. Although ret in terms of climbing latter can always be subbed in for another class in the composition and the composition would be better, very rarely has a ret been the best partner for another class.
