I’ve been playing prot paladin since TBC. It has been the only class/spec I’ve mained since playing WoW. The thought of having to switch mains honestly makes me just want to stop playing WoW. I don’t understand how the devs continue to ignore the feedback that Prot is in a terrible place and needs buffs. It’s been over two months with beta and now release and still no changes have taken place.
PLEASE BUFF PROT!
What changes would you like to see?
tried a few dungeons in prot personally felt ok, was pulling whole rooms without dying, the gathering part is scary while you run outside of consacration that give you DR, only things that was feeling bad was WoG healing me at times for less then 5% of my health pool and costing alot of mana, other then that lightsmith and buffing people with it felt fun. we are definetly WAY squishier then other tanks. but we dont get Globaled so far. in M+ when the damage intake will ramp up it might be a different story.
I’m another prot pally player since bc, and it’s a struggle playing prot and knowing how well the other tanks handle the content. You have to be on top of everything happening and keep a cooldown rolling at all times to pull like all the other tanks who are just walking around body pulling mobs and taking shots to the back.
I know tuning passes will happen, and I hope they aren’t just nerfs to all the other tanks to bring them down to prot pally’s level. I would rather see a buff to prot pally to bring them in line. Some buffs could be aura buffs, while other could be tweaks or talent adjustments.
a few of the ideas that come to mind, without being over the top are listed below. I don’t play holy, or ret as much so I’m not sure how some of these would work out.
Hero Talents
1.) Lightsmith
• Take Holy Armaments off the GCD. This has been requested since beta and it rotationally feels bad to have that delay between building/spending. Thematically speaking, this could also be a way to re-introduce holy power generation to Avenger’s Shield while a buff is active seeing how it could be used as a bulwark or Weapon. Adding in additional holy power would increase Shield of the Righteous casts, which would net more Shining Light and more Holy Armament uptime.
• Buff Rite of Sanctification to 15-20% armor. Buff Rite of Adjuration to include a substantial buff to base WoG healing.
• Remove the mana cost from WoG buffed by Shining Light. I’m trying to see the big picture with how Lightsmith would play optimally, and I see that as constantly healing yourself with free procs, but that comes at a cost currently that is more of a dig-your-own-grave playstyle. It could be better, it could be more enjoyable and I see this as a way to assist in that process. Especially if Paladin is purposely designed to take more damage than other tanks.
2.) Templar
• Higher Calling really needs to include Avenger’s Shield. Avenger’s Shield is a critical ability in a prot pally’s toolkit. We have part of our tree dedicated to buffing the ability, but with this hero tree, it doesn’t have any interaction? Is the design to ignore the ability and it’s talents to keep Shake the Heavens rolling? It’s not a good feeling to ignore the ability that’s key for snap aggro, interrupts, an absorb shield and massively tied to class fantasy.
• Wrathful Descent could be adjusted from 5% reduced damage to 15, or have it stack by 5% each time the same enemy is struck, up to a certain amount. This would help deal with the damage intake. It wouldn’t fix it, but it would help. This could also be applied to Hammerfall.
Thematically, I love the idea of the hero trees, but more can be done with them.
That would make it so much better!
I don’t even care about being meta or the best tank class… I love prot so much that I just want it to be viable, and with it’s current state it feels like as soon as M+ gets released prot won’t be playable. No one is going to choose a prot paladin for higher keys. I’m just completely shocked that this wasn’t resolved months ago
Avengers shield needs hooks in the hero talent trees, it’s really sad to see how rotted the spell has become.
It is sad how low priority AS is.
