Please bring back hardcore PvP servers

Ok here’s the thing I love this game I love everything pvp but the whole pvp identity in this game has been put thru a meat grinder of agony and pain, and is increasingly taking a backseat xpac over xpac.

That’s a grave mistake, because dare I SAY that PvP is MORE important for the future of WoW than PvE–not JUST for current players but prospective players who WANT to dip their feet into the game.

Heck, I think back to all my glory days and some of the most legendary and awesomest times I ever had and all of them were in context of PvP.

Listen, I think instanced PvP is fine, arena, rbgs, gladiators, blah blah whathaveyou, but we’ve grown too acustomed to it and have TOTALLY forgotten what reeaaaal PvP is.

Even if you’re not a PvPer at ALL, theres something to be said about the classic experience, where you had REAL PvP experiences out in the open all the time and how much it defined the game and was really a lens thru which you experienced it.

You know, the world that you’re actually playing in, alongside quests, story, etc. and everything else that made it REAL, AUTHENTIC, AND LASTING and feel like it was actually THE MAIN PART OF THE GAME YOU’RE PLAYING and not something you just queue up for and for the duration of a match (30 mins).

When you got to actually KNOW people by name AND REMEMBER THEM, grow with them, progress with them, and when people had actual reputations in the community.

(whens the last time u rememberd someones name in a battleground LOL)

When you had a list of archrivals that you need to get payback on!!!

When you had a buddy or two or an entire guild to come back you up when you’re in a jam or to go with you thru dangerous uncharted territory!

Nowadays, these things are a lot harder when you have cross realm zones, phasing, layering and the whole gamut of things that break the ideal of a consistent persistent community of a single server.

And CROSS FACTION! Ugh.
I wrote a great deal AGAINST cross faction anything when it was first out especially on an alt however I was almost UNANIMOUSLY shot down. I suspect that from almost all of the ones who were against it come from a very PvE oriented background. They just don’t GET us.

At the risk of repeating myself from many moons ago: Cross faction is not the way forward for players who are serious about playing the game in a PvP forward, oriented and fashioned way: We’re not about it.

It’s lame, it’s sad, it’s like holding the broken pieces of a favorite glass vase in your hands you cherished from long ago.

I DO NOT. LIKE. WARMODE.
Why? Because it lacks PERMANENCE that meaningful choices HAVE. The ability to switch things on and off on a whim just isn’t fun, C’MON!—I’d MUCH rather be in with people who are committed to the same thing I am.

I’m not here for that “ohh its getting too hot let me turn that offf!!!”

NO! WE’RE GOING TO BOIL TOGETHER

I see no harm in leaving warmode on PvE servers, but they a no-go on real deal PvP servers.

Here’s what Im recommending and it’s not too extreme, it’s just a couple of adjustments that need to be made and everything should fall into place naturally.

  • Warmode needs to be removed or at least relegated only to PvE servers, PvP servers are always locked to being PvP
  • Need to make each server unique in that I’m not connected to players with other servers or at the very least that any layering/sharding/phasing that IS done is minimal and doesn’t interupt. I can learn about my community, and they can learn about me cuz it’s not always changing.
  • Faction locked. or at the least if you HAVE to be avant garde then have it so players can choose any faction they want when they pick their race but at no point in the game can you team up with or interact friendly with the OPPOSING faction. This facilitates and strengthens conflict.
  • More incentives, rewards, and a wholistic system in place for PvP that happens out in the world. It seems like all the rewards are currently for instanced PvP and that shouldn’t be. Need to find a way to make the dynamic experiences of world pvp rewarding and exciting.
  • Keep it high risk, high reward. People who like PvP in general are naturally inclined to that sense of thrill in general, so at certain points in the game we need something with HIGH Risk.

I’m thinking of like how in runescape you had the wildy, where if you died you would drop EVERYTHING in your inventory. The stakes were high–it was scaryit was fun. We need more of stuff like that. Right now the only thing going for the game in that department is armor durability loss–No shot.

Can I ask something? You had a couple of RP PvP realms to boot back in the day for those who wanted it, WHY NOT A FEW HARDCORE PVP SERVERS ?!?!?!? Let those who want that thrill, go in. Build it, and they’ll come.

I really hope someone somewhere takes this to heart because the truth is a LOT of players feel the way I do and WANT THIS–they’re just not well spoken or pressed atm to go to the forums about it, or maybe they don’t even play anymore. I’d like to represent a generation past and also a generation of players to come who can hopefully experience the same awesome experiences in the game I once did!

Just play Albion Online

nope, it was PVPers who suggested it first, the PVErs took our arguments and with their larger playerbase, made them heard.

the reason was because queue times for bgs were approaching 50 minutes for horde.

Yes, but servers arent the answer.

Even if they did this, I don’t think it would be able to sustain a healthy population, even if it got up to one.

Create a character.

Camera pans down to my view with the narrator detailing my epic odyssey yet to unfold.

Dead on the ground with an Orc Rogue doing the MC hammer shuffle next to my corpse.

lmao.

Classic has only managed to get 1 well balanced server over 2 expacs. Grobbulus.

the rest all went to <1% basically. one side is <1%. OCE an exception. But still mildly lopsided to my eyes. they jsut are like 60ish to 30 ish splits.

Grob only like this for 2 reasons as I see it. Its an RP server. Some do not like that. their outlook, all good. hate rp by all means don’t be on one.

and when many guilds migrated here off prior server exoduses…there was actually some coordination. Mega Horde GM X talked with Mega alliance GM Y. We bring over 100, you bring over 100 ish…we can mash heads on grob and not turn this into faerlina/benediction the sequel.

Sound good? so some larger guilds moved to grob with the goal of not wrecking the balance.

and thus…grob so far has not gone to crap. I even moved my NE rogue there last night. Making a draenei paladin (who the rogue will be its sugar mommy too).

for balance…I ahve the leveling horde be hunter there already. I will boost BE paladin or rogue with the 70 boost drops.

Still working out who gets the DK. I will be 3 to 2 then lol.

Why not though–if its an option for people who would want it?

I;m a big believer in that there is a huge, untold number of people out there that would want it, they might not even realize they want it, because they just don’t know exactly what they want till they know that it exists

We’re talking about a core thing like PvP–whats not to love? People love PvP, that’s why most the top games out there are pvp centric

but to be frank is that a little synonymous with saying they wont do it because they’re afraid its gonna fail? I’ll tell ya what’s failing, it’s the way things are now! what im proposing, will exceed all their expectations, they’ll need even MORE servers than they can handle.

I play on lightninghoof and as DEAD AS MY SERVER IS, I’m still having more fun here with the times that I do recognize and see people I know out in the open world.

So often I’ve got my human warrior parked over the cliff ABOVE orgrimmar auction house because i can’t keep myself out of trouble (just picture mmy character leaping back and forth there tearing the place up)

I have an enemy guild NOW that actually WAITS for me to log on there–tat’s dedication. and i’m talking ALL. HOURS. OF THE DAY.

One guy does the nightshift, two others rotate during the day.

they’re trying to get me there, and they CANT because im quick! i’m FAST.

my point is these people clearly know me, and I’m aware of their fledgling little guild

when the game is made right, great, interesting, COMPLEX and MORE RIVETING experiences than youd get in a 30 MINUTE BATTLEGROUND just happen naturally.

And I’m suggesting that the population of players who want there to be world PvP for the sake of world PvP is actually really small.

PVP is funnerer than pee v eee

Because a server is a bigger opt in/out. It makes people choose between guild mates and PVP. We need non-PVPers to try PVP. Excommunicating them isnt the answer.

I love PVP but everything’s better in moderation.

i started the game on a pvp server yonks and yonks ago as a wee babby. level 70 rogue spent 1 and a half hours killing me at level 20, then logged onto his second account to insult me for not fighting back.

not touched pvp since, weirdly.

Really curious what the grand marshal classic grind would be like today on retail, not season of mastery, but if they tried it out for what the hell lol…

I did it once and almost ended up in the hospital, never again. Just curious what the brackets would look like and all the chaos it brought to the game today

A real PvP server would have ganking and twinking, with rare twink items being BiS for levels 19, 29, 39, 49, etc. with the ability to turn all XP off, so they can throw themselves into the dangers of the world trying to obtain these items.

id rather them instead of trying to juggle and balance the interests of pvp goers and pve goers ON a single server to just give my idea a go.

again, it’s not harming anyone on the pve side of things just adding a couple of REAL DEAL PvP servers for those who want that intensity
again, it would only expand the game.

Just move your human pally over to my server and pop on Warmode…then you’ll get your hardcore WPvP experience.

Twinking and Ganking isn’t PVP. That’s like calling a street fight “boxing”

Listen, some of us love to gank and GET ganked. that’s just the way we play the game and we love every second of it–even if not always in the moment LOL

see, ganking gets a bad rep ONLY amongst PvErs or ppl who dipped their toes into real pvp ONCE and were scared off for LIFE. “oh its totally unfair” they say! “oh its about who gets the first jump!” they say!

now to me, that’s merely seperating the wheat from the chaff since certain ppl are simply not cut out for it–no shame. to them i say, farm mounts and do the same raid / dungeon another 5000 times.

i personally find PvE boring to the bone.

but like, i’ve been thinking… if I was that level 20 being ganked by a 70 rogue? OH, you could bet your bottom dollar I would have done EVERYTHING within my level 20 arsenal to make that rogues life miserable. you could bet your bottom dollar I would BAND together with my level 20 buddies while they CC’d the man to give me time to run away to the hills.

this is the type of stuff that happens in a REAL DEAL pvp setting. we play because this is what we’re about, the thrill–THE HUNT.

quests, story, dungeons, etc etc and all the rest of it --that’s all just a bonus.

And I have no problem with that. But we use “PVP” to cover that and Ranked Arena, and they aren’t the same thing.

This is a fact

The point is that everybody runs laps in Oribos, nothing to do. They’re dreaming of a little action, but where can they find it?

Arena? Ehhh okay I guess, i’m up for some arena rounds ( sighhh, not really tho, it’s always the same thing )

Battlegrounds? Oh, For the 10,000th time, sure why not…

You know what this is all like? An animal in a CAGE looking out.

Welcome to your “safe” space: can’t get hurt there’s the rules, here’s your water there’s your food (weekly cap/systems)

Oh, here’s a stuffed ANIMAL (battlegrounds, ranked arena, whathaveyou) of stuff to represent the real “dangerous” WORLD OUT THERE, BUT YOU’RE JUST BEING TEASED AND TORTURED

I find so called ‘instanced PvP’ to be a simulation of the real world. And imagine THAT for a second, a game is ALREADY a simulation, so its like a simulation WITHIN a simulation–LOL.

Now, dont color me anti-arena or battlegrounds or any of that, i love these and they obviously add to the game…

BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF REAL, WORLD, PVP

NOT AS A REPLACEMENT FOR IT

See, I shouldnt have to write any of these posts, it’s all common sense 101.

What I’m getting at is that we’re dealing with is like collesseum type fights vs tribes warring out in the open world.

Yes, theyre both pvp and not the ‘same thing’, but the second one is the REAL DEAL.
people. WANT. the. REAL. DEAL. and then sometimes they want the fake version on the side.

problem is that it’s stigmatized in a lot of peoples’ minds as being either bad or unfair or SOMETHING. and that should not at all be so given the fact that it’s a game.

PvP, really, is endless content.

You’re fighting against HOW they fight, that’s always changing, that’s random–dynamic.

Maybe there’s one, two, or 10 (you have a chance against 10 people in the open world because of toys, terrain, and who knows whatever else. i’ve seen it, and let me tell ya, those are quite the stories)

Uhh, perhaps they’re on a glider, and YOU’RE down there.
Maybe they’re on a montain top, and you’ve a KNOCKBACK ABILITY!

And now, the beauty of the grand symphony: this all interacts simultaneously with the MMO that you’re playing. You could be questing, mining, gathering, or very seriously leveling and you dont want to be bothered. Could be in the middle of a city where you thought you were safe, etc.

the point is its unfair, unpredictable, its sporadic, ITS LIFE.
its brutal, its raw, its REAL. emotions are high, because maybe the stakes are higher, and so the whole situation is high octane. sometimes that’s good for me/bad for me, but it’s a give and take.

instanced pvp wouldnt. dream of tapping into these forces.

Which is why, PvP is such a POWERFUL force in the mmo and needs to take the FRONT burner IMMEDIATELY.
