Please add LFR

With Phase 2 of Season of Discovery in full swing and the raid scene heating up, I wanted to open a discussion about the potential addition of a Looking for Raid (LFR) system.

Now, I know this is a controversial topic, and the Classic experience prided itself on fostering community and social interaction. But hear me out before the flames come out.

The argument for LFR:

  • Accessibility: Not everyone has the time or dedication to commit to a static raid group with scheduled raid times. LFR allows players with more casual playstyles to experience raid content and acquire gear on their own terms.
  • Filling raid groups: Filling raid groups, especially on off-nights or during content droughts, can be a nightmare. LFR could alleviate the frustration of finding the last few players needed, ensuring smoother raid nights and more consistent progress.
  • More players, more loot: With more players actively raiding through LFR, the overall loot pool increases. This could potentially benefit guilds competing for raid gear in the higher difficulties.

Concerns and potential solutions:

  • Community dilution: One of the biggest concerns is the potential erosion of the community aspect of raiding. LFR could replace the need for guild interaction and social connections forged through the recruitment process and raid progression.
  • Gear discrepancy: LFR gear could create a significant power disparity between LFR raiders and guild raiders. Potential solutions could be limiting tier sets or specific high-end items to guild raids only.
  • Difficulty and attunement: Maintaining the difficulty and prestige of raid content is crucial. LFR could be implemented with different difficulty levels compared to guild raids, and potentially require specific attunement quests to access, similar to current requirements.

Ultimately, the decision to add LFR is a complex one with pros and cons. I believe it’s worth discussing openly as a community and weigh the potential benefits against the risks. Let’s have a civil conversation and share your thoughts on whether LFR would be a good addition to Season of Discovery.

What do you think? LFR - yay or nay?
