dual specialization allows for more people to more easily play this game. thats why they added it to retail. the only drawback is it takes away the meaning of talents.
They also added dual spec in as they simplified threat in WOTLK and I would argue even healing. It was part of the let people swap to do any role, but to make sure it doesn’t lead to terrible groups and bad taste, make all roles easier to learn so anyone can do it on the fly.
It was just another step on the way to retail being what it is.

Wrong. Duel spec was introduced in patch 3.1 post wrath launch. It was not part of the prepatch.

I don’t like duel specs. Your character identity should matter.
Too bad it doesn’t. You’re a mage and you want to be decent in arenas? Better go frost. You’re a mage and want to do decent in raids? Go fire. That’s the reality of it. Good players will spend the gold and respec twice a week. The illusion of identity disappears in tbc.

I’d prefer they made it cost 5,000g per respec, but you get one per month free.

Yes but they have to invest in that and take the effort to make the money and time to do it.
The biggest part of dual spec I do not like is when hybrid classes do it on a whim and try to do group content and are terrible at it because they never took time to learn, gear, or even try to play the other role. They just swap back and forth constantly to try and get carried.
PVP and PVE progression are separate in TBC.
IT would be a welcomed change by most people.
Unfortunately for us, blizzard misunderstands the audience. They thought only die hard players would play classic for example. OF course they were wrong about that. It’s much the same with TBC, so not going in on changes would be a mistake and they’d lose the larger audience.
I disagree with this statement. It’s the same kind of thing with group finder in my opinion. It slowly erodes player identity and community.
