Based on what everyone’s been saying (or at least what I’ve seen) Maldraxxus isn’t interesting apparently, like same old plague WoW stuff. But I’m playing through it right now and I’m honestly enjoying it way more than I thought I would.
This has honestly been the reaction of every member of my guild and community that has talked about it. At first glance, Maldraxxus looks and feels like boring, bland, reused material with a gross aesthetic. The reaction after questing in there, though, flips pretty regularly to “wow, this is surprisingly good.”
Somebody or somebodies clearly put a lot of love into it.
Thats the issue with long running themes like undead in wow. People are so used to the original bits, they cant look past it to see whats new. I cant help but feel if maldraxxus wasnt undead themed, people would like it a lot more.
I really enjoy the Maldraxxus story so far on my main. It does have a special affinity for my Unholy DK. She is named after one of my of World of Darkness Dark Ages characters. a tszmisce named Radinka Grimaldi. If you know anything about the old WOD, the Tsmisce were “fleshcrafters” whose signature vampire discipline allowed them to mold flesh; living, dead, and undead, into all sorts of abominations.
So Maldraxxus feels like home. I even have my own war ghoul (Marz).
Outside their thirst for battle, they (even the villains) are very wholesome.
Kooky. But wholesome.
Kill a bad guy? Most cheer you on “I knew you could do it… yay you! Urgk…”
Picking them as a covenant? It is like Addams family level of love being thrown around.
I love Maldraxxus too.
I love their ability, their transmogs are awesome, the abomination factory is actually BiS and the whole civil war story line is really really good.
Also all the “Disturbed” like NPC’s with the death masks on make it a perfect home for a Death Knight.
The shrek under the bridge by theatre of pain makes the zone for me
I was surprised too. I enjoyed the story there and enjoy doing the WQ there.
Maldraxxus is the best zone with the best storyline and quest.
It’s because they’re wholesome and celebrate your individuality and encourage your to better yourself. They’re also excellent at recycling. No body goes to waste.
I love that the enemies taunt you saying they’re coming back with a new corpse to kick your butt.
Most of my fishing was leveled there. Ernst had a fishing accident in the process.
Never trust what you hear on forums. Always make your own opinions.
Thats a must in GD
Fun fact. Maldraxxus has the most mounts rares, is the easiest to navigate on the ground and has the best spread of flight points out of all the zones.
Bastion by comparison was so garbage that even blizz finally acknowledged it by recently putting in a covenant only fp to the dungeon.
Revendreth is so convulted with elites that it makes Nazjatar look like a breeze pre-flight.
Ardenweald isn’t too bad but still not as good as Maldraxxus navigation wise.
That’s how I felt after reluctantly choosing Kyrian
Could you elaborate on this pls? I’m trying to make my final decision on covs.
You get to create your own abomination and play dress up with it.
You then get to take said abomination along with you out in the world. Pretty sure you can even ride on its shoulders. lol
Maldraxxus is #2 for me in SL (behind Revendreth). Don’t know why, just like being there.
Where to begin.
One can heal you.
One can act as a tank with taunt.
One can scavange for parts for more abominations and be a repair vendor.
One is basically a mount but is the best mount in the game by far. Can mount in combat, indoors, can mine and herb from him, has a stacking speed buff.
They’re not as OP as people think they are but you will definitely feel their power in open world content. With Marz and myself in tank spec I can solo the 800k hp rare elites. Just takes a while.
Oh yea. You can play dress up. I have a princess crown on my tank (Marz) with teddy bears on his shoulders.
I basically have to run them for my Shammy as I play Ele/Resto, and to be honest I get what people are talking about. Comparing just to Night Fae, Tyrande’s plotline is a huge hanging thread, and Bwonsamdi is always a delight to hang out with, whereas Vashj just…kinda drags you around doing her dirty work for a lot of these campaign quests so far. Draka feels like she could be gone and I wouldn’t notice, half the quests she just directs me to some other NPC. The zone is incredibly ugly, and before you say “Well that’s the undead!” Icecrown Citadel is gorgeous, and I even really like the Plaguelands, so it being desolate isn’t the issue, it’s just…a kind of gross flat swamp.
There’s nothing really awesome like the big vortex in Revendreth where Sire Denathrius is pulling in the Anima, the starry skies and the big tree in Ardenweald, or the absolutely stunning sky box of Bastion. The side characters do have charming affinities for constant bloodshed, but it just isn’t enough for me. Everything feels like it has no weight.
