Playing WoW with OCD, needs advice

Hi all,

Despite what it will look like, this is absolutely not a troll thread.

I have a rather bad case of OCD ( I don’t even know if this describes what is happening to me but I’ll try. )

Leveling in WoW for me is extremely fun, but a few things of that OCD keeps me off rails.

  1. I cannot die. If my character dies before level 70, I’ll delete the character as I lose all interest in it because everyone says leveling is so easy that nothing can kill you. Well, I die, I don’t think I am a bad player, but sometimes for example during group content a mistake will happen and it is difficult to survive ( you are a healer and the tank pulls too much for example ).

Leveling without group content is out of the question as solo questing I have done every single zones 10s of time ( imagine if you restarted everytime you died )

  1. I keep a photo album of all my character as I am a hardcore roleplayer, problem is, I need pictures of all my level ups and a picture of my stats so I can remind myself of my progression. If I miss a level or a picture, I WILL delete the character as it feels incomplete.

Now, many will laugh but this is perfectly true.

Memoria is an amazing addons for me because it auto picture you when you level up. Case 1 checked.

I was wondering if there was an addon, a macro or a command that would automatically open your character sheet to picture your stats to make sure I can document my character.

That particular pet peeve comes from my DND days, I was completely unable to trash my character sheet. I remade one everytime my character leveled up and kept them all.

Deleting a character because you forgot to take a pic of his stats and you gained a level is really heartbreaking, thanks in advance for any help

Deleted characters can be restored. There’s a little button for it:

Not sure if your OCD gets in the way of restoring characters temporarily though. Unfortunately other than that idea, I took a quick look around for you and couldn’t find any addons matching what you’d like.

Additionally I’m sorry you deal with OCD. I have it mildly and the way you describe it tells me you’re not lying. It is terrible.

I die when leveling is meg it happens just relax and have fun

What happens what you die at level 70 ?

Honestly when it comes to topics like this I would probably seek professional advice, not in this place.

Funny thing is, it doesn’t really impact my everyday life, it shows up in game mostly

Strangely enough, that’s ok, as I realise it’s the toughest content in the game so it seems acceptable.

What my brain can’t “wire” or accept if you will, is dying in a content that everyone says it’s trivial…if it’s trivial then why am I dying…lol. if I die in a M+ or raids, it’s ok.

Well you should try classic hard core then

just screenshot your screen. there is a windows hotkey for that.

or you can go windowed mode and print screen button and paste in paint. (maybe even windows snip tool)

or you can go to the official wow website and see your characters stats and take a screenshot with windows snip tool?

OR you can just write down your stats. in a book if it means that much to you,

I do kinda feel you. I think a lot of people who play RPG games are a little OCD. What is completing keys for the vault every week if not OCD behaviour?

I also had OCD problems before, and what helped me was trying to step back and attack the basis of my OCD behavior with another OCD logic. Like going OCD on your OCD.

In your case it seems like you believe that you absolutely should not die during leveling. I would use my OCD to attack that. Like, is there at least one official source that says that? There should be at least one official source, otherwise it’s all gibberish.

Then with stats, it seems like you believe that absolute stat values matter. But npc stats also scale up as you level with scaling coefficient unknown to you. So mathematically you don’t even know what the effective stat increase even is relative to monster stats. Or worse those number increases might be cancelled out by monsters scaling up and so relatively the stats remain the same.

In my case that kind of strategy helped, because fulfilling the “meta” OCD on top of original OCD was too much work, and so my brain “deleted” the original OCD the way you delete your characters. Not sure if it makes sense at all, but worth a shot.

Silverbolt that is fracking brilliant! I am totally stealing this for when the obsessive compulsive thoughts take over at work.

Brilliant!

Thank you for the help, what I am looking at is an add on that would open my character sheet by itself and screenshot it.

To be clearer, my problem is that I sometimes forget to do the screenshot because early levels are really fast. Like O spammed dungeons in my 20s and sometimes will get nearly 1 level and 3/4 in a dungeon, so if I get another queue popping right after, I can easily forget.

Awesome, thanks for the help, will try that.

In my case, I am pretty sure that the need to print the stats of my character comes from the need to have a “complete photo album” of their journey from 1 to 70.

I also screenshots every quest I take, including the turn-ins, but those aren’t a problem as it’s a muscle memory now, every time the window pop, I press my screenshot buttons which I have assigned to my razer Naga hahaha.

Thanks all for taking this seriously !
