Playing as a BM hunter whitout Dire Beast Talent

Is it possible to play and do good numbers without this talent?
I dont look to be the best damage dealer but everytime I try to play without Dire Beast my damage just goes down, almost to much.
Now you may ask, why not use it? Well I dont like the fantasy behind it, to me (and for a long time in this game) BM was about you and your favorite pets, not about a zookeeper that keep sending everything a zoo have to kill something.
A friend told me that the “old bm fantasy” now is more in line with SV, and for me this also does not help as I dont like to melle as a hunter (nothing against those who enjoy).
So… is it possible to make good numbers without DIRE BEAST? And if NO is the answer, will be possible once 11.1 hit?
Thanks.

I mean assuming you’re not mix/maxing stuff, have at it

The problem is, the damage drop to much without it, at least the few times I tried.

If I have to play MM I would make a goblin and use a gun never to use a pet again, but I love my wolves to much.

Hmm, it really is just dire beast + the 3 talents right below it for a bunch of damage

I mean you could play around with the other talents and just sim a few times, you might be able to find something that will still do enough damage for the content you’re doing

But ultimately if you’re gunna be pushing mythics/raiding, probably gunna need dire beast

If you can get a bunch of people to complain out loud enough maybe Blizzard will make it optional - perhaps even undertune it so it becomes unpopular and eventually gets removed.

Thats the problem.
I mean why a entire talent three if I need to chose one patch only.
I have been trying to find something but the diference is still considerable thats why I made this post, trying to get some help, maybe others solved this problem.

To be honest this is kinda “niche”, I know a few die hard BM hunters who just went SV to keep the fantasy or just put their hunters in a nice spot in Azeroth while they play something else.
And as much as most of the ppl I play with does have the same thing to complain about it I am not sure this is a big issue for most of the hunters, I checked the forum to see if there was a topic about it and found very few old ones.

Have you checked the hunter discord?

I assume they have one, and maybe other people have played with the idea in there cuz those usually attract a few people who like to theorycraft for fun

I’d play with talents myself, but my hunters only 60 so I wouldn’t really be able to get the full picture yet

Beastmaster is often perceived as the “easiest class,” so whenever the WoW community sees you doing decent DPS, they tend to complain and call for nerfs.

I would recommend enjoying Beastmaster as a solo player, as the “meta” talent build would be less relevant in that context.

How can you not like a zoo of crazed animals attacking your enemies?

Can you? Yes, you can play without it, but…you will do far less damage. 60%+ of a BM hunters damage comes from the pets, the more pets the better.

Do talent sims using SIMC + raidbots. Best way to see how much the damage loss would be.

In Dragonflight I ran the ‘easy mode’ Demonology Warlock and turned out for that it was pure Versatility/Crit for that. It worked for full heroic, no issues. Still in the top 3.

Generally if you have a strong mastery of the class and you don’t see a <5% go for gold.

(For what it’s worth I am running a very non standard BDK build and it’s working better than others just I know I can’t use it in high key).

Technically you can. You would be making yourself a Single-Target Build though and you realistically can only do it with Dark Ranger and not Pack Leader.

Pack Leader depends on Dire Beast to keep the Focus generation healthy. Without it, you’d have to make more bad choices like pump your Haste on gear, which is just… no.

It would involve taking both points on Scent of Blood, Master Handler, and Murder of Crows to compensate.

Run a sim that way and see what you come up with. I would even consider Barbed Scales instead of MoC so you can keep spamming Barbed Shot over and over and over.

No…and no

I recently swapped to a BM hunter and let me tell you, talents are so widely unbalanced…your DPS just tanks without taking very specific talents.

They pretend talent trees give you “options” and “class fantasy” but if you raid (above LFR) or do M+, it’s a lie…

If you just do casual stuff then don’t worry about DPS.

I hated having to take some talents I didn’t want but my DPS did majorly go up because of it

Which is funny, i found my ret vastly easier to play than BM ever was

I have the same impression but I will not go there on this topic, its for something diferent and so far, I have no good answers for what I want to do.
Well… I have good answers but they are not good for what I want.

Isn’t “Dire Beast” the 3rd and final button in the BM rotation?

Arent they giving a talent to MM that increases Pet Dmg or something to compensate having it?

Might be less severe than not using Dire Beast but idk.
