Players: "we do not like timers"

Blizzard: “lets add a timer to the whole endgame zone in shadowlands”

While you are in The Maw, the Eye of the Jailer is upon you. You'll have a limited amount of time to do stuff every day before the Jailer notices you and makes the experience more difficult.

Eye of the Jailer - Increase your threat level with Zovaal, the Jailer by +1,000 units. This threat level is reset to zero each day.
Eye of the Jailer: Deadening Chains - Periodically summons chains that slow your movement.
Eye of the Jailer: Enervation - Maximum health reduced by 10% within the Maw. The effect is reduced when other players are nearby.
Eye of the Jailer: Entropy - Damage done reduced by 10% within the Maw. The effect is briefly reduced after killing an enemy.
Eye of the Jailer: Hunted - The Jailer will periodically send assassins after you. Foes become more difficult as you the Eye of the Jailer focuses upon you.
Eye of the Jailer: Soul Beacon - Soul Seekers within the Maw detect you from 1 yards farther away.
Eye of the Jailer: Soul Surge - Towers will periodically attack your location.

They compensate for this with the fact that Torghast, the roguelike loot tower with gamebreaking and fun anima powers, has no timer whatsoever.

That actually sounds really cool. Like you’re in an area you shouldn’t be and you need to get what you need done asap before the big guy caves your skull in.

If I am doing it solo , timer is irrelevant .

In groups however when my success is dependent on others not wasting time ? Goodbye .

No i don’t expect randos to improve or the community to self police I expect Blizzard to figure it out

It’s more of a soft timer than a hard timer. The more geared you get, the more of the jailer’s attacks you can stave off and the longer you can stay in The Maw.

Soft flexible timers aren’t so bad. It’s the hard fixed timers that suck.

It depends how it works in practice.

What I truly hate about Mythic+ is how it’s completely speed running like that very niche thing people do. One wonders how many people in fact enjoy the relentless go-go-go AoE sprint fests.

:raising_hand_man: hello I am a player and I like timers. These effects also sound really good (less thrilled about reduced movement though)

Thats one of the good decisions they made for Shadowlands, imho. (we already have M+ for timers. don’t need them in other content. really getting old and boring)

No hard timer, but if you die enough, the Jailer yanks you out of Torghast. The time is based on your success. You can’t spend all day doing attempts like Mage Tower.

Over a countdown based on Insanity or whatever, I’ll take it.

This sounds amazing. Interactive and fun, and requiring players to ACTUALLY IMPROVE TO PROGRESS IN THE GAME! Yaknow, like every other video game ever?

12/10 Blizz.

Speak for yourself. The timers are what make decisions important.

Having to lust every mob and spam cc until lust is back up for the next mob to progress higher levels sounds like :poop: game play.

They need something to stop that being the best/only way to progress past a certain point.

Players: “we want more challenging world content”.

Blizzard: “ok, here’s a test”.

Players: “we don’t want that kind of world content”.

Not a fan of timers, but the way they are implementing maw doesn’t sound too bad. It sounds more like simple stacking debuffs than “do this by that time, or start over with nothing” which is more akin to M+ or Visions.

That won’t work in Torghast because mobs will be sent at you periodically. Especially if you’re running solo you’ll hit the limits of your CC capabilities very quickly and will be fighting almost the entire time you’re inside.

Oh that is in there already? I havnt seen a huge amount but I didn’t notice it on the hour or two I did watch. Maybe they were just moving too fast. Glad that’s in there anyhow.

doesn’t sound too bad. more like a soft enrage mechanic for the entire zone. I’m assuming the debuffs stack the longer you are in there

So no AFKing to take a smoke break in Torghast then, oh well.

That’s the key issue. That and how powerful the Jailer is. If he’s like Freddy Kreuger and we’re just a stupid teenager … we’re hosed.

And some of those debuffs are pretty harsh.

10% damage debuff? That’s going to take a LOT of item level to overcome.

Two things I hate in games are:

  • Timers
  • Jumping Puzzles

That being said, if they add in some kind of limited time, mage tower type transmogs then I could probably deal with it as long as I don’t feel like I am being pushed/rushed through it.

The other thing I hate in games are slows/movement impairments. If I am being slowed and timed then I will probably only do it once and say forget it. I can deal with slows in normal gameplay but it would be too much for me if I was slowed and timed.

To each their own.
