Players teleporting forward, updating position ingame

Players on my screen teleport forward instantly a few feet. It happens to different players at random times. Some players walk normally with no teleporting and others teleport. Its like the game is updating the players position. Doesn’t happen to any of the mobs just other players. My own character is fine. If I’m mounted and have players run a little behind me I can see them fall behind and instantly catch up.

Initially I thought it was packet loss but after testing I don’t seem to get any. Having this problem for a while, I’ve since switched internet providers as well as built a new PC. It still happens. I’ve also tested mobile hotspot from my phone and get the same issue. My ping is very low. This doesn’t happen in any other game.

All my drivers are updated and happens with no addons on a fresh install of windows. with almost no programs.

Here are WinMTR results to US central for wow.

Try rebooting your modem/router and computer. You should not have such latency on the veery first step.

Have done that, got a new modem when switching and upgrading my internet. But where can i find the high latency on first step? Not really sure what that means.

Hey there,

Thanks for providing the WinMTR, I definitely don’t see anything in those results that would explain the behavior that you’re seeing.

Since you’ve tested different internet providers and new PC hardware perhaps it is something related to the WoW install or client itself. Do you happen to use any addons or have you changed any cvar values manually?

I’d recommend to try resetting the user interface and then log into your character again. Once logged in type this command in chat:
/console cvar_default

This will reset all hidden cvars (settings that can’t be changed via the menu options in-game). Then test the issue again to see if it persists.

Yes I’ve reinstalled wow multiple times before and after changing hardware. I use addons but have tried it with all addons disabled. I also installed wow and ran it after a fresh install of windows with no addons downloaded.

I tried resetting and setting cvars to default. Issue still persists.

WinMTR only tests 1 packet per second, so it’s still possible you’re having lag of some sort since WoW is 30x that rate.

Perhaps it’s a processing issue on the PC as well. Can you add a DxDiag to a reply? And in the meantime, check for overheating.

It might be but I tested on my phone internet and get the same issue. As well as my previous internet provider.

I checked dxdiag and it says no issues found. The text is incredibly long I don’t think I’ll be able to post it here. Temps are fine as well.

I uploaded a video showing an example of my issue. You can clearly see it with the guy riding his mount around the tree. You can see other players doing the same thing although its harder to spot.

You have to export the report to see the errors. If it doesn’t fit, use pastebin.com to post it.

The behavior in the video is normal in crowded areas, and it could be their connection, not yours.

It seems to happen to every player although at random times. It will happen in groups, bgs, and in places where there aren’t many people like leveling zones.

Based on the reports of the DxDiag:

  1. Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
  2. Response: Not available
  3. Cab Id: 0
  • Problem signature:
  1. P1: 144

That live Kernel error is usually related to corrupted graphics drivers. Try a clean reinstall using DDU.

Also, your BIOS is multiple releases behind, and for Ryzen, that can affect performance significantly.

Im going try try a bios update but ill do it last since apparently its pretty risky. Reinstalled gpu driver with ddu and still the same thing.

Bios updates are only risky if you can’t follow directions. 20 + years and never had a bios flashing issue.
