I think that players should use the entire kit for the content they are engaging with but different content should be designed to require different kits, including different spec abilities.
In other words, classes should require different sets of abilities depending on which park ride they are riding… Mythic+, Raiding, Battlegrounds, Arena, etc… Each of these should require the player to play by a different set of abilities, and the players proficiency at using that specific set of abilities should be what matters, rather then whether or not they are using ALL of their abilities in some capacity.
I used to do this but now I play one character per content type. To be honest, I don’t really enjoy micromanaging my spec. I’m not speaking against other players who are constantly changing to their character’s spec per activity but I just want to set it and forget it.
So if the Damage role players are handling DPS just fine, it should be okay if the healers just worry about healing?
I know that this isn’t the way the game currently works, but if it did work that way, it would be just fine if Healers never needed to use their Damage abilities in some activity?
Yeah. Sometimes you even have to make a specific build for specific bosses
Blizz keeps trying to ensure that healers stay busy enough to never have enough free time to DPS…so sure, its fine if healers dont heal because they dont have open GCDs
Yeah I don’t like that kind of game play. I should be able to contribute to the success of the group without needing to micromanage specs configurations.
I used to do the same, and will for season 2. I agree, it can be taxing keeping track of multiple things for one toon as opposed to having toons set up. But those extra toons must be leveled and caught up which can be a chore. I agree with you there.
No. That is at odds with what I’m saying. All healing specs have access to some sort of DPS abilities. Thus if they have the opportunity to use them, they should. But they should not be DPSing for the sake of it when there is healing to be done.
Well, that is your decision. If you are ok knowing you are playing below your class’s potential because you refuse to adjust your build to maximize your performance on a boss… then I support you
I disagree with this philosophy because it makes the assumption that all specs shouldn’t be able to contribute in some way equally.
but my point with this topic is that the design concept shouldn’t require players to do just that. That the content type is designed around a specific set of abilities (and spec) rather then every encounter requiring different configurations.
In other words, this paradigm seems to require every class to be a jack of all trades but be a master of none…
Because you’ve gotta figure out how to get around the fact that healing is designed to have only finite value, but DPS is designed to be near infinite in value. Killing things faster is almost always better.
