I was just whispered by a ‘GM’ asking me to visit a dodgy site and give my credentials.
Normal, you report and ignore, but 20 seconds after he whispered me I DC’d, not normal.
Coincidence?

Yup, coincidence. I’ve gotten half a dozen of those whispers in the past week and haven’t been disconnected once.
If a GM whispers you, you’ll know it’s a GM.
It’s coincidence, ignore the scamming little rat.
Yeh I realise this part, the DC part got me thinking.
It’s irrelevant, so stop thinking about it.
Oh, I understand that. I left that post and those pictures for people who may read the thread but not know how to recognize a real GM.
I have had this several times in the past week, funny thing is, I have gone to report them and it says “0 Players Found” and they are on my connected realm.
I think that’s an error with characters below level 10, or something.
Possibly, but generally the ones that whisper me are DK’s. Could be they’re logging in, using a macro or bot to spam, and then logging back out trying to dodge reporting, or maybe even being banned or locked.
Seems like that wouldn’t work if you reported them manually. If you delete a character it’s still archived. It would just make right-click reporting not work.
Ohgodmyeyez, thank you for that post!
Yup, they have all been DKs from what I have seen, usually it is Blizzards.
I whispered this one back with something nasty, his name back was different to what he whispered to me, that let me report him.
Years ago we used to be able to whisper stuff that was not right, names showing different, links to items we don’t have, who knows if it still works now.
If you delete a character it’s still archived.
Not always. Anything that’s level 1, or level 55 for DKs, is purged within minutes of being deleted.
I’d imagine on Blizzard’s end they could find the info, though.
I get whispered more frequently now myself, but never DC’d. I hope it’s a coincidence because otherwise yikes. I always report for spam.
I’d imagine on Blizzard’s end they could find the info, though.
Oh, totally. I can’t imagine they don’t have some means of identifying the account behind any whisper that happens in the game.
Did you take a screenshot of it, or do you have the website?
