Classic era, SoD, fresh era, MoP, Hardcore. I personally am looking forward to a WoD SoD hardcore hybrid in the future.

This is the only way to keep the playerbase.
I won’t play unless we get fresh Era. Joe Schmoe won’t play unless there’s hardcore. James Bund won’t play anything but SOD.
Plenty of people actually do unsub from this game if their chosen product isn’t available. The business savvy move is to make them all available. Many people didn’t play vanilla, but populations were perfectly healthy back then and servers had less people on them than are on era right now.

Era is strong, I feel no pain on Era; we only seem to get stronger with every single new thing that comes along.
I think Fresh will be awesome, but Era is not going to die.
Additionally MoP will extract players from Retail for Arena / RBG’s since its just a better game for that.
MoP PVE is actually really good, its not overly hard or anything; just really fun.
HC is strong AF for the players who play it because its tied into Era in a way, and HC is a self sustaining thing.
As for being spread thin, the only players who need to worry about this are those playing versions like Cata / WoD / SoD that are mostly raid logging games. I think Phase 1 WoD raids are really good tho, so it should be a strong contender in Phase 1, but its PVP is kinda bad because its over pruned trash, and the class balance is a freaking mess.

I’m playing era, cata, and retail casually and enjoying my time playing between the three. All three have an active community and I usually have no issue finding a group in any version. I’m not the only player playing multiple versions. Things are fine.
Era would be bolstered if Blizz allowed for transfers to TBC when the fresh realms reach that final patch.

Question tho is do we want transfers? Not all but many of the “progression” players similar to SoD and Cata are the sort that buy gold; do we really want them?
In a way these cycles are somewhat of a cleansing for us that allows the Era servers to get stronger and more resilient.
They’ll be there even if transfers aren’t a thing. Evidence is bots and gold sellers since classic dropped.
Really Classic Era does not have a whole lot of gold buying as a % of player base VS the insane amount you find on SoD, Cata, Retail and in the near future (FRESH Progression)
