Player proves you can determine your layer with /who (proof inside)

Which frankly we all already knew because it’s been happening with retail shards for ages.

They’ve known about it since PTR and done nothing.

Correct, I took one in TB, and another in Org.

The reason is that Org has my bank account who just handles banking/AH, and TB is because I was there doing some leatherworking on my Shaman

you mean like the images of the bank full of arcane crystals and black lotus, that now appear to be completely false according to that blizzard post?

people do weird crap like this for attention all the time. layering is causing issues, and it is exploitable, its just not as bad as some people are making out - which just makes it harder to get blizzard to do something about it.

its that whole chicken little, or boy who cried wolf, thing. and if youre into conspiracy theories it does make you wonder if the exploiters are making massive exaggerations so that once the reality is found out its not actually as bad as people think and they dont worry about it as much, while the exploiters continue exploiting

UPDATE:

People are asking why one picture is Orgrimmar, one is Thunder Bluff.

This is correct, I took one in TB, and another in Org, both at the exact same time.

The reason is that Org has my bank account who just handles banking/AH, and TB is because I was there doing some leatherworking on my Shaman. I have a separate account that just checks mail, posts AH, has extra bag space, etc.

Did…

Did you just get rekt by a blue post?

rofl

Yo! I got you fam I brought supreme, sausage, and pepperoni.

so you multibox? i’ve always wondered if it was worth paying for another sub to always have someone to quest with, make levelling easier, but controlling two characters at the same time seems difficult.

Not sure what you are referring to, HOWEVER…

You can test this out yourself by simply doing the /who command. The OP clearly states the 2 commands you can use to verify this on your own.

Interesting! So now we await the blue people.

This thread is bullcrap per the recent blue post. Piss off.

Awww thanks =)

Lol if you believe everything that you are given to “eat” by the corporations and so on… there’s bad news. We are trying to figure out if it is truly true what they are talking about.

Absolutely I multibox.

Not only am I an avid multiboxer, I’m a huge supporter of building the community through honest and open communications. I was the founding CEO of Wowhead, the creator of the Pwnboxer multiboxing software, and continue to create multiple PC Gaming communities, software, and overall have a presence in this industry. Honesty and integrity are requirements to operate in this industry and I extend that concept into dealing with items such as the layering exploits going on in this game.

I honestly believe that this layering exploit does tremendous harm to the community, not only in the short term, but the long term as well. Even if Blizzard fixed layering, they absolutely need to remove the item/level/rep gains from this exploit, otherwise it allows continued harm long-term by economic manipulation, but it also harms Blizzard’s reputation and standing and trust with the overall WoW Classic community.

Edit: If you’d like to confirm, check my Twitter @StartupTim I’ll post a confirmation post right now.

Edit #2: Done, just tweeted.

Oh man, I don’t like how this is turning to be…

Mother of God… from the initial screenshots it kinda looked like multiboxing (overlayed WoW windows) but I didn’t want to go that way lol. Thanks for clarifying details. It seems like your experiment is closer to zero latency between the two queries…

I just did your test in Feralas and indeed it brings up different results. One looks like a layer (with 42 people), the other one is 50+, which I assume is the server. Also walked around and found people that popped up in the layer list.

Alright, we are done here until Blizzard comes back with an official answer to why is this happening. The question is simple, I will repost mine from above:

if all the players in the 2nd query are truly in Orgrimmar (as the UI shows), and Orgrimmar is a “Zone”, why isn’t the 1st query picking them up as well?

Could someone also do the same test, then join a group, and see that list change? Basically, find a player that is from the “Server list”, but not in the “Layer list”, and see if you can get in one of the other layers.

not really. i think we all know its an issue, i just think its being over exaggerated to the extreme in some instances, which doesnt help when blizzard can easily repudiate those instances and then it makes the whole issue look fake, not just the exagerations.

the blizzard post indicates its an exploit so you would expect some sort of ramification for players that do it but the problem is that they only indicate, which isnt enough to stop people from actually doing it, especially when you have high profile players/streamers showing the world and nothing happens.

Numbers 3 and 4 are legitimately hilarious, do you really think Blizzard is going to spend the manpower to go through hundred of thousands of accounts and determine what xp or items they gained were a result of layer switching? This is a crazy demand is never going to happen. Layers are here, hopefully they get taken out soon but nothing is going to be done for them retroactively.
