Player led development

I postulate that one of the significant reasons that this game still exists today is because of the game development that players have done over the years.

whether it is addons or macros, player-drive development and customization has led the way.

and it has happened without blizzard having to spend a dime on it. people wanted a better experience and they built it - for free.

I think weak auras has taken it too far.

some things have been developed over the years that are really good: i like the current UI customization options. quest helper being built in. good stuff.

but when the corporation has to spend money on development, you know there will be less of it. and if much of TWW is any foreshadowing, it will be rolled out poorly and half baked.

This situation just makes me think of classic and the players being told they don’t actually want it.

finally listening to the players and delivering classic doubled their active players.

you think that money counters in the ivory tower would have learned something from an avid, long-term player base telling them what they want in the game.
