looks at FFXIV player housing … most players in FFXIV, who have houses and even those who don’t, don’t spend all their time in their houses. They spend most of the time actually out doing content or in the major cities interacting with other players.
The whole ‘players would never leave their houses’ is a myth. Blizzard uses garrisons as a scapegoat to say they because they designed garrisons so you’d basically never have to leave. That’s the fault of garrisons, not an actual player housing system.
Well the engine is very old, and it has 17 years of spaghetti on top of it. Truth be told, Blizzard has run the engine into the ground. I honestly believe their best path forward is starting over with something from this decade somehow. I’m no computer scientist but 17 years is far too long to keep having stuff added to it.
Also I just don’t know if Blizzard and especially the devs themselves have the motivation or excitement for the game. I watched the Behind the Scenes for Overwatch 2 during Blizzconline and everyone there was excited, they were animated, their voices had inflections about what they were talking about, they could barely contain their eagerness. And while yes, the game is probably a ways out still, and OW itself is suffering, it was amazing to see developers that were actually excited and interested.
Compare that to the WoW devs, where they were monotone, tired looking, to an extent almost bored or hesitant to share any news. It was a monumental difference between the groups.
Yup, same thing in ESO. ESO was smart in the way that they made crafting furniture a profession and scattered recipes all over the open world. This incentivized players to constantly run around farming them. The fact that you can also mount dungeon boss heads that you’ve slain on your wall is another awesome feature and gives a fun RPG element to running them even if you don’t enjoy dungeon crawling.
Well, they did a pretty major reboot with Cataclysm, and every new expansion that changes the graphics there are some fixes, but I agree, the engine is kind of creaky by now. A total reboot would be a good idea, if they can resist making signficant changes to things like in game action and interface.
In this thread there is a great suggestion on how to do that: the titan inside Azeroth hatches and destroys the world, then its rebuilt from the Emerald Dream (without the titan) and you rebuild.
Except eventually you have thirty buttons and should ALWAYS BE CASTING. If you aren’t casting something with a cast time, you should be using two of your 60 insta-cast spells off your cooldown, and buffing, and dotting, and also moving, and laying down something to change the battlefield.
It’s not slow, people are just dumb and can’t play. If you play on a JP server you see true gameplay, while NA servers are full of idiots that can barely do a dungeon. WoW immigrants.
Yeah player housing would be a neat little addition – provided it has nothing to do with player power and focusses mainly on cosmetic, QoL stuff.
I’d love my little DK hovel to have its own mini runeforge <3 Home is where the runeforge is after all. Maybe it could have only like 50 charges so I’d still need to go to Acherus and restock.
I want a lil’ Tauren camp for mah moos… He could have lil’ moos running around and like, cute Tauren theme’d shiz. Y’know. I RP him as like, Daddy Warrior Moo. I would totes follow through with that in housing.
I found this interesting as well. At first you can build like a one room shack but as your crafting skills go up so does the size you can craft and what you can craft for the interior.
I’ve posted in favor, and proposed ways to start small and cheaply. My friend and I were discussing it the other night and he’s convinced they’re holding it in their back pocket as a hail mary pass to spike the interest in an expac. Can’t fault the logic.
I used to not have much belief in the above, but with Ion telegraphing that there will be cross-faction PvE in the future, I think it’s possible that they hold off on things that they know will be a big draw.
Next expac: Bring the battle to evil with your friends from the opposite faction.
Next expac: Something mild
Next expac: Housing
That alone takes them a decade forward in comfort. I just hate waiting. >.<
The only way I would like this is if a sizeable chunk out of each zone could be cut out as a plot to build our own house wall by wall.
However, i think that just wouldnt happen because blizz uses preset assets instead of each building being unique. I just don’t see it happening in wow.
Not sure if that level of vitriol is appropriate. I’m also only level 57 so I haven’t unlocked any full job kit. But I can say right now it doesn’t feel good. We’ll see when (if) I get to max level. So far the instanced content has not been fun for me, and I haven’t run into a lot of nice people, so it kind of kills my interest in continuing.
Because resources are finite and I dont mean cash. Time spent fitting a full on house crafting game within WoW costs developer time on other projects. As I said, I would only accept a high quality solution. Anything less would just be garrisons 2.0
I would love for player housing to be added in WoW.
Personally I enjoyed the garrisons, but I do agree that it wasn’t enough? Like if we can’t customize the buildings for our home could we at least choose where to put items/furniture throughout it?
I also find the argument of “we already have garrisons” to be insulting. They haven’t been kept up with? That’s like saying we already have achievements but never adding new achievements past WoTLK (the expansion they were added into).
how often do you think other people, with their own houses, are going to “over” admiring your house? and like the guy who thinks he’ll “throw parties” there, how often do you anything would stay looking around for more than 5 minutes?
You’d be surprised what roleplay could do to people provided there is enough content to customize. I love how many outfits I collect and discover. If there was a deep customization for player housing I would be all for it.
