Player Housing - What is your Building plan?

I’ve been trying to come up with a building that attracts many people to visit but the few ideas I’ve gotten either wouldn’t work with my account progress(Museum) or a bathhouse(Idk if we’ll get liquid assets anytime soon) so now I’ve only got the idea of a library but I have my doubts with it since I assume that many people would build a library and other library like buildings(Karazhan) or that my RP profile that links to my compendium nullifies the purpose of actually visiting my library in-game.

So my question is simple, what are you(the reader) planning on making when player housing officially drops? I hope to gain an understanding of what other’s are building so that I can better understand what other people would want to see and what I myself would also like to see myself create.

I think it’s one house per faction? Fuzzy on the details but rolling with that assumption.

That said, Horde neighborhood is going to be my best attempts to replicate my RP main’s home on the Echo Isles. Going to see how much I can optical illusion it to look open air, pack it with jungle plants, trinkets on the walls and hanging from the ceilings. Hoping they let us place battle pets; I want snakes everywhere.

Alliance neighborhood I have tentative plans for an observatory. Hoping we get some of those planet and star map assets. Some mesh of Titan and Draenei tech if it’s feasible. Less an IC character home and potentially more a hub/public space.

Also bathhouse sounds like a fantastic idea.

I’m also coming around more to the bathhouse idea, I figured even if they don’t give us water assets by itself I could hugeify a moonwell and add other decorations to give the bath effect. I’m glad you liked the idea, it’s making me like it more as well so thank you.

Also I personally love the observatory idea, I do like looking at pretty stars and the such.

Depending upon how we’re able to build?

Main hall (large central or rectangular room) where the entrance is, designed to show off trophies, statues, someplace comfortable for guests to rest.

  • Ground Floor:
Storage room off to one side, guest room off to the other, stairwell to upper level opposite the entrance (and if possible) stairwell to basement under that. Possibly have a central health or kitchen to provide warm food and/or heating to the ground floor and upper levels.

  • 1st Floor:
Bedrooms off to the left and right, central area has tables, chairs, book-shelves and various magical trinkets. Possibly a bathroom above the kitchen for hot water bath-tub.

  • 2nd Floor:
More bedrooms, small treasure room, magical ritual circle in the middle of the room and standards and banners of a variety of origins.

OR

  • Basement:
Totems, monoliths, more dangerous kinds of magical mac’guffinites, cobwebs, more crates, chests and storage devices than you can shake a Goblin at, trophies of darker natures, Demonic weapons, Dragon skulls, stuff you don’t want a small Harpy child to be poking at because Leena still doesn’t understand the concept of her own mortality yet, do you not realise why Gen’tarn is bald these days?

I have some ideas but I really won’t know til I get my grubby little hands on it.

It’s forming up in my head like a medieval monastery. A great hall, and atrium - if there are assets I can attempt that with. Definitely a big library and display spaces for all Kina has collected over the years. and other rooms as needed, I guess. I’m actually glad that the outside won’t really match in the inside arrangements. I want to feel like I walked into a Tardis.

I’m hoping for a decent amount of “outdoors” stuff. Like a fountain of some type, some greenery - vines, bushes, and trees would be nice. The trees could just small and decorative.

Since we have two houses to work with, one will be Zal’s residence with trophy room, library, guest rooms, kitchen, etc. This will probably require some negotiation with RP partner as to who’s living where with whom. The other will be Zal’s book business with a bigger, secure library, reception area, lab, summoning chamber, and a lot of security.

At this point, I have only vague ideas about general style and layout. I really need to see more of the toolkit to make more concrete plans.

Depending on what kind of flexibility we have, maybe a tavern on the main floor with living quarters on the second floor. That way I can drink beers with friends and stumble up the stairs to my bed.

Since they’re giving us the ability to make items float, I’m making a haunted house! Gonna be poltergeist as heck up in here!

It’s all subject to change once we see how everything shakes out upon launch, but I’m planning to make several apartments within the houses with different themes so they can accommodate multiple characters.

The Horde house will have Blood Elf, Forsaken (with an apothecary/evil scientist sub-theme if possible), and Goblin themed apartments.

The Alliance house will have Pandaren, Gilnean, and Dalaran/mage themes.

Still not sure about what I’m doing outside. Depends on how easy it will be to section off a few smaller areas, or if it makes sense to go with one outdoor theme per house.

Since the initial building set will be limited and the expectation is that they’ll add more as they go on, really depends on what we start with.

As far as immediate dreams I want to build a mad wizard’s tower since my main is an ex-Dalaran mage so I’m hoping they roll out some Karazhan goodies, if possible an exterior skin done in that spooky wizard style.

First floor is a space for all sorts of magical experiments and shenanigans in cobweb filled rooms with eerie haunted vibes. Second floor is some private rooms for various wretched servants freed from the bowels of Silvermoon’s rubble. And the bedroom wing will have a secret room filled with classic Silvermoon tourist junk, while my character is a forsaken he has a thing for the elven city and its magical culture. There will hopefully be enough building materials for a Sylvanas shrine complete with a summoning circle but we’ll see what we’ll get that can truly round out the space for a deranged mage.

The outside will be…well, sort of a call back to the vibes of the Tirisfal glades complete with coffins, plague pits and stabled horrors. That purple undercroft in the concept art for the horde zone is very enticing, looks like forsaken free real estate to me!

(I am SO SO SO SO excited for this!!!)

Thomas does need a place to rest his bones. Literally.

Suspect in a box on the mantelpiece.

Forgot for a second we’ll be able to adjust sizing. Big ol’ moonwell hotspring, let’s go.

I just remembered there’s an actual hot spring in Tavern in the Mists in Pandaria too! Right behind the building. Wood frame, water spigots, steam and everything I believe. Here’s hoping they pop that asset in there eventually for housing.

I don’t want to say what I’m doing but I have plans.

Still hoping I can follow through on them.

Probably go for the Hobbit hole houses like in the Twilight Hinterlands, maybe some Earth interiors. Dunno feeling a need for warm interiors with lush greenery and warm lighting. If water features are a thing I’d probably include some of that as well. I’d love a water wall or even just a few small waterfalls falling down into a basin.

I haven’t kept up with how it’s all going to be but if the interior structure is entirely up to us, I’d like a wide public lounge area as soon as you walk in, then stairs to an upper balcony landing area where my private lounge and bedroom would be. Then behind/under that section would be a kitchen and some storage theme rooms. You walk directly into the lounge into the kitchen and then maybe have just a tiny hallway or just have those extra rooms directly off the kitchen.

The Horde tavern in Dalaran has always been a neat place so something like that but more compact and again, earthy, warm tones. If we get to pick exteriors and they’re not just coded to like, Orgrimmar aesthetic…Maybe Ironforge house front. Just like broad, strong and slightly Brutalist architecture designs.

I’m going to be very original and make a seedy, Yawning Portal-esque adventurer tavern. You know, the sort of place you picture when you hear “you all meet in a tavern”.

Since we get one per faction for now, I’ve been toying with the idea of a house for one and a general magic shop for the other that would be tied to events and general in-game roleplay. I suppose it’ll depend on the time sink and how well I can balance it without completely shrugging off life and adult responsibilities.

I mean, most of the time, my players meet in one of three places:

  • Prison. You know why you ended up here. Now get recruited for some heinous nonsense to get your records scrubbed clean because somebody even more degenerate criminally inclined has popped up and we’re short of warm bodies to handle the issue.

  • Military boot camp. Welcome to the :poop:, private, and you thought being drafted meant something about the breeze … why are the trees talking?

  • Adventurer’s Guild Hall. We’re assembling sacrificial pawns disposable troops bait additional support for the real Heroes on a routine mission and … OUT OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE, HOW ARE YOU BARREL-SCRAPINGS THE ONLY ONES THAT SURVIVED?

Yeah I’m doing at least one of mine as set ups for RP adventures, so that’ll involve different public buildings and such. It’ll probably change constantly.
