And WoW will never have “well implemented” housing like you want, because its engine can’t.
So the discussion really is over. The people who want player housing, won’t be happy with what the game can deliver. So it’s never going to happen again.
Well, Ion said in a pre-Dragonflight interview that it would take many expansions’ worth of work to rewrite the engine to be able to do it the way that housing advocates want.
My granddaughter was just showing me how the garrison works, and you could take it, and make it small scale to do exactly what people want.
It’s “phased” so everyone has their own that they can invite people into, so all they have to do is section off whatever area the house is in and Phase it.
Then you place small, medium, and large furniture “plots” inside, along with trophy hangers.
You could have a system to upgrade the home, or just a larger “house plot” where you place whatever building you wanted, just like the Garrison.
It would take work, but as they said, it’s reusing existing assets, and in this case, even existing code.
Nah. The player housing lobby has built that hill they’re gonna die on way too high to give up on that.
Could Blizzard do something with the same “mister potato head” system they used in the garrison? You know, X number of anchor points and a menu of 3 or 4 items for each? Sure. But that “won’t be player housing” to the people who keep screaming about it.
Probably because even at the highest tier, the Commander doesn’t even have a bedroom. Or even a cot in the corner. You can’t call it housing if you don’t at least have your own apartment.
“I was thinking more along the lines of, as soon as someone gets the whole Garrison to level 3, it unlocks an option, to turn the INN into a Personal House. Then you level up the House, by decorating it.”
“The Garrison is already set up so that if you are partied with someone, you can invite them in. You can invite up to a full raid. That is 40, I think.”
Oh I know I do. It’s one of the reasons I still enjoy EQ/EQ2. I just don’t have enough time to play everything I’d like to right now, and WoW’s my game.
I think it would offer tremendous value to the game. So many achievements, quests, collections, profession tie-ins, things like that. And since a lot of features are tied to a single expansion, it would be something always relevant going forward.
It is an RPG after all! IMHO, it shouldn’t seem strange that people want this.
THIS. I seriously don’t understand the appeal of player housing. Everyone will just end up in their own houses and the world will feel even more empty than it already does.
Regardless of that detail. I believe people would prefer a better location than an alternate dimension in the middle of a warzone that you’re not supposed to be able to go back to, but can because they don’t like to lock you out of content.
My thought on it, there’s a house in Elwynn forest by the murlocs next to Goldshire that has nothing going on that I know of. Or create a subdivision in one of the cities. Or put it in Gilneas once we get that back up and running. There’s going to be at least a few empty homes a hero of the alliance could move into.
Turns out this is a niche thing, most ppl that play video games wanna quest or kill stuff for loot. I just don’t see them doing this because it will only be a certain amount of ppl that hang in your house wasting time.
Half the player base would not like houses created for them based on races origins.
Seems like a dead on arrival ideal, the concept is cool but it’s just a waste of time with nothing to gain from it except looks.
