Player Housing Ideas

It’s important to get our ideas out to Blizz as early as possible as they will take significant time to implement if they agree to the benefits of adding them.

I would like a bookshelf/library function:
Lore objects like books, notes and letters that players may have been lost or deleted for inventory space should be re-acquirable and there should be a furniture type that allows for storage of those items.
It would be great if they added books that if they player read them, would replay cinematics from across the WoW storyline as well.
A kind of ‘lore hub’ that players can use to recount their journeys.

I would also like to see ‘safe’ instances of all racial cities (I’m thinking Suramar as an example) with the ability to have a home in these places. This is also an opportunity/excuse to modernize and revamp the existing cities.

Overall, I’m looking for reasons to return to capital cities. (Like lvl matching dailies, crafting tables that work for all xpacs, holiday events, etc.). I like the idea of having activities in neighborhoods as well as within the homes themselves.

This is of course a great opportunity to add in furniture and home item rewards via crafting, drops and events as well. Trophies for PVPers and Raid Boss killers, toys that persist in the world, furniture -both decorative and functional, etc.

WoW waited far too long to get into the concept of player housing. They need to really go all out.

I would like selective / smart instancing where neighbourhoods are instanced such that the houses belong to actively online, nearby players with a preference for guildmates. Garrisons sucked in part because they felt so isolating. I want to be in a neighbourhood where I can get to know my neighbours (or yell at them about being on the lawn)

I want a boat.

As adventurers who’s business spans the whole world, it doesn’t make sense to have a home in a specific place. But every playable continent has a coast, so if we had a boat we could park it in any expansion zone we wanted.

As long as the hold is large enough to decorate it would serve the same function as traditional housing, plus since it’s our own boat we could use it to travel from continent to continent without having to wait on dedicated ferries.

An Ikea inter sales colab. Think of the possibilities for furnishing and bliz in game sales

a laboratory would be amazing.

Or a garage. Keep all my inventions in there.

I just want something that will stay useful throughout any expansion. I love my garrison, and I still go to it and do things there. The order hall Is useless after you get the mount and mogs same with Shadowlands covenant.

It would be nice if, after player housing, they revive class halls. Hell, it might be cool to put a house or two attached to each order hall

NPC companions.

It would be cool to have NPC companions. Make them customizable. The possibilities are endless:
Romance?
Butlers/servants?
Flatmates?
Squires?

Make them theme specific as well.
Warlocks have demons running amoke, washing (breaking) the dishes, casting wards around the house to deter rogues.
Paladins’ squire repairing and polishing armor sets on a rack.
A shadowy void being sits at the table for tea with a Shadow Priest, or a lightspawn diligently lights prayer candles and ignites the hearth.

So many possibilities.

All I want in my player house is a little fantasy computer with a little fantasy webcam to have my business meetings

I’m really doubting this would happen but I would absolutely love the ability to actual build your house from the ground up. Blizzard did recently cancel their survival game they had planned so maybe it is a possibility. I’ve always throughly enjoyed survival games (Rust, Scum, 7days to die, etc …) and it would be really neat to have some Minecraft esque aspect put into this new player housing. It would also set wow apart from the other popular mmos that have implemented housing in their games.

While i’m going into WoW’s player housing with no expectations, you got some neat ideas OP!

I want:

NPC followers from previous expansions, like Legion, WoD etc able to visit., that we can pick.
Our alts as NPCs able to visit and hang out, that we can pick where and what they do.
Different looks for each of our alts, I don’t want my monk home looking like the same as my draenei hunter or my DiD shaman or my undead DK etc etc.
All sorts of race and class appearances for our homes, not the same generic alliance and horde looks with only the items we can place looking race/class specific. I want to feel like I’m in a undead, worgen, human, tauren home.
I would love a large neighborhood, like a big city like Valdrakken, but each house is our own, and we can walk outside to see the other homes with a huge court yard in the middle.
Have a stable outside for a few hunter pets
A stable/parking spot for a few select mounts
Able to have 3-5 battle pets of our choosing roaming around, kind of like the garrison, but we can pick which ones.

That’s good off the top of my head.

I remember that being like, 20 takes because he kept laughing the entire time. You can see him about to break before he says SPACE!

Also how the heck do you do the video without having to link it to a Hyperlink?

One thing I’d enjoy having is the ability to frame photos we take with our S.E.L.F.I.E. camera, or perhaps frame screenshots we take. Since that’s all local information the pictures would only be seen by the player, so there’d be a generic picture for anyone else that visited.

I’m loving all the ideas here. I hope blizz takes notice and more players contribute.

Thinking back on other MMORPGs,

GW2 housing wasn’t really housing at all and was very unfulfilling.

FFXIV had nice houses and neighborhoods but not having the entrances phase players into their own homes gave the game a housing crisis. I prefer my IRL disasters to stay IRL, thanks.

Wildstar had amazing housing but it was removed from the world. The ability to edit and then show off your home is nice, but it needs to be the capital cities (with maybe some options to have a homestead or command a home garrison that is actually on Azeroth).

Something like SWTOR might work, but again this system also felt removed from the rest of the player world. Having the NPCs around the house were nice, but it would be great if they can actually move around the space and not just stand around looking bored.

Whatever they come up with, I hope it blows the other games out of the water. They have had 20 years to watch the success and failures of various iterations after all.

Something I felt I should add:

This is the dev team’s chance to show a side of the world they only lightly touch on in game. So many players don’t like that a lot of lore takes place in books/external media (I like it personally), however WoW has a pattern of telling rather than showing.

Housing represents a chance to redesign capital cities, give us a reason to attend them and even change the way NPCs path, interact and function. The home itself is a chance to show rather then tell what the quieter side of life on Azeroth can be like. NPC interactions could vary more based on culture/race/city and give a stronger sense of identity to denizens of Azeroth.

I believing focusing on this last point could really set WoW housing apart from other games and create a lasting evergreen system.

what’s actually important is that blizzard announced player housing and then turned around and said they want our suggestions on how to implement it. blizz has zero clue what they are doing and i can almost guarantee this is going to be another WoD scenario
