The game is so mature it’s almost moot at this point. It’s not a world it’s just a series of hubs. There’s no community to build around a settlement, and no land to build any settlements on. Housing to me sounds like an excuse to sell recycled vanity items. The world has no shortage of empty buildings players can occupy and RP in.
Players: “We want player housing!”
People when Blizzard decides it’s a good time to add it: “You can’t possibly have a good reason to add player housing!”
Talk about mixed signals.
Blizzard didn’t add it when players asked or it would have been done over a decade ago.
What bean-counters see is ARK, Conan, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls all offer a form of housing but WoW doesn’t so housing would be a cheap easy way to boost competitiveness. It’s better late than never but it also feels cold and half-hearted. We’ve gone so long without housing I’m not inclined to accept this weaksauce gift when they could be working on something important.
Forum dwellers are experts at moving goalposts.
Garrisons were literally their first attempt at player housing. They said as much when they announced WoD and up until launch. So yes, they tried adding it a decade ago, and they messed up with it big time and ruined an expansion with the attempt. Which is why they’ve been gun-shy about it for a decade. But with the success of FFXIV and ESO’s player housing features, as well as the modern team being more receptive to player requests, Blizzard finally decided it was time to try again.
I’ve been here since the beginning and helped install the goal posts. That’s just another reason why Housing feels like a slap in the face now. Why now when we’ve asked for 20 years? Because the anniversary is a fizzle and TWW got stale fast. They are grasping now.
Player housing has nothing to do with either of these things.
Then don’t get the housing.
Does it feel like they’re out of ideas… Or does it feel like they’re listening to one of the most consistently requested things of all time?
I have little interest in it myself, but it’s really silly to pretend that this isn’t something a large portion of the players have been asking for since day one.
Sounds like you’re just here to complain and troll.
Pffffffftttt
I agree with this part and I unsubscribed also. Housing is a carrot on a stick. Don’t fall for it.
For what?
Carrots?
They’re delicious with a bit of pepper.
Oh man, such a shame we’re getting housing instead of more M+ slop.
Good, one less salty curmudgeon.
I don’t think they have run out of ideas. I think they have finally started figuring out how to make ideas work. For example:
- Backpack cannot have more than 16 slots: Blizz finally adds 4 slots as incentive for using the Authenticator and get people to secure their accounts. The in BfA, adds an extra 8 slots to Vulpera. Meaning Backpacks could have 36 slots (40 with authenticator and up to 48 for Vulpera).
- You cannot share currency between alts: Now, most TWW, DF, Raid/Dungeon, and Misc currency is transferable.
- You cannot have account wide anything, it is per character. First it was mounts, achievements, and pets, then titles, now Warbands and Warbanks.
- You cannot fly faster than 310% in game: On DF with skyriding, you can reach speeds of 800-1000% depending on the situation.
- We cannot figure out player housing: Tried and failed with Garrisons and waited 10 years to try again. Now we are getting it in Midnight.
That said, we still have things that will eventually go away with time and better tech. Loading screens for portals, no flying in TBC starting zones, Race/Class/Faction unlocks… and a whole lot more. They’ve not run out… they are just now figuring out how, and it can only get better.
Of those games, exactly one (unless you’re referring to Lost Ark and not Ark Survival) is a competitor in WoW’s market space. Two are survival games, and one is a survival-scifi-fps-mmo.
So it’s important until they decide it’s a good time to add it, then it’s suddenly not important and it’s a waste?
Korrsica was right, good job moving goalposts.
This, 1000%. The past 4-6ish years have been them finally figuring out how to untangle and rework existing framework to get different things done and solve problems in getting specific things pushed into the game.
3/10 attempt.
Player housing feels like they’ve ran out of ideas
In the last two expansions they added Dragon Flying, Follower Dungeons, Delves and Story Mode Raids. How can you say they are running out of ideas? We have seen more new ideas in the last two expansions than any pair of earlier expansions.
