Player housing but explain to me why

It seems that some people have a lot of difficulty accepting that other people enjoy or may enjoy something they themselves don’t want or like

There’s some files in the game that indicate a rough framework for player housing. By the look of it, it’s pretty old (the model I’m referring to uses a WotLK or Cata house iirc). That could mean pretty much anything though, as there’s tons of model files that are literally just a giant pink box with the words “DELETE ME” and a line through it (oddly enough most of them seem to be from BfA).

The obvious negative to player housing is that it might depopulate the world somewhat, lead to things being or feeling more cliquey, and of course you’d give a lot of people carte blanche to create their own micro-goldshire (though I suppose it’d be a positive that they move away from the very first quest hub a new Alliance player sees).

Honestly, I’d like the idea because a) it gives you something more to do and b) it’s immersive. I loved the Garrison in theory–in practice it got pretty tedious, and I hope they learned from it. But yeah like…by WoD you were this monster slaying timetravelling badass and your actions have kinda just kept going up since then in terms of scale, so it’s weird that at the end of the day you’re basically an extremely well armored, educated, accomplished hobo.

So what do I hope I’d get out of it? Nothing but a fun cosmetic thing. That’s it. Doesn’t have to be a total basebuilder like you see in a lot of survival games, but something a little more customizable than the garrison. It’s been said further up in the thread but SWTOR is actually a really great example of implementation. You could make a humble moisture farm or an evil lair.

Best part is though that they really wouldn’t have to make a ton of assets for it. There’s basic building stuff and doodads for just about every single culture in the game (though some far more than others).

So you’d start with a basic shack type thing dependent on your faction and you’d go explore across the world and different expansions to hunt down that perfect sofa or whatever.
