One thing that occurred to me, and hopefully occurred already to the Player Housing devs, is that customizability starts with basic bricks. Think of Lego bricks. Originally they were very simple, allowing creativity to turn them into recognizable things. As time went on Lego added more strange and unique bricks with fewer uses outside their intended design. Just like that, WoW housing should have a variety of very simple objects that could be used for design. Something as simple as a Wooden Block, a Stone Slab, and a Small Metal Bar. They could be used as steps on a staircase, as a custom grating, etc… They should be cheap, readily available, and highly scalable.
Im not sure we will be building the houses in WoW. It may be more like we get an empty house that already has a floorplan set out and we just furnish it.
While Iʻm all for building our own homes from scratch, as it lends to the construction of some super creative builds, IDK if WoW is able to let us do that at this point.
Sorry if I didn’t present myself clearly. I do mean for interior furnishings. Don’t like the default interior staircase that comes with the 2-story room? Make steps out of wooden planks in the exact positions you want! Don’t like the standard fireplace? Cover the top edge of it with 3 scaled bricks for a new look.
The suggestion is merely that having simple objects as well as the fancy Goblin Signs, Windmills, and Guillotines will be useful for creative designers.
From what I’ve seen it appears the rooms are just massive 3 story or so boxes with generic wood and stone wall appearances, and we do literally everything else within that large room.
From what I’ve seen some things will be pretty base in appearance, like a pillar and planks used for stairs etc, but not sure we’ll be getting things like a base brick, metal bar etc, but I like that idea a lot. I have a feeling we’ll get things like that over time and you’ll also be able to flip and turn things in all directions so something like the back of an item almost has the appearance of a plain brick, maybe.
I really look forward to seeing what people come up with outside of just placing items in a normal setting.
If you watched some of the creator interviews and demos… you can do this. Inside the house. The outside of the house, does not reflect the space inside. So you can create pretty vast floorplans and height differences ect. Dratnos made jumping puzzles in his for example.
Stacks a bunch of Earthen to build a house “What? You said I needed basic bricks, these were the most basic bricks I could find!”
