So back in the day I use to play star wars galaxies and in that game you could go to a spot outside of the city and place a house, players also could make whole city’s with taxs etc and it was server based, that game came out in 2002-2003 [Housing | SWG Wiki | Fandom]swg.fandom–com/wiki/Housing why do we not have this in wow now? just a general curious question. this is a link to how it worked. you will have to replace the slashes with . i couldn’t post it directly.
It’s not here because they tried garrisons and didn’t like everyone spending most of their time chilling in their garrisons away from everyone else.
It’s been 20 years and it hasn’t happened, I think it’s safe to say it isn’t going to happen.
People were spending all their time in Garrisons because
- There was nothing else to do outside of them
- They tied professions and Gold making to them
Imagine WoD but with world-quests and Delves. Suddenly, people aren’t in their Garrison 99% of the time.
Even through I want player housing. WoW’s engine wasn’t design for it.Also would player housing be open to everyone or do you need to own the current expansion? Also what expansion do you import assets from for player housing? People might their house in different zones too.
Last time Ion spoke about it, he said they are working on it but in very small pieces, as the amount of work is equivalent to a raid tier and so they do a little bit of it at a time and eventually they’ll add it.
Garrisons weren’t really player housing. They were a customizable quest hub. Which is why they failed. It isolated a lot of players who didn’t have an established social group already.
Now Blizz have said that they continue to plan how to implement actual player housing and it is a goal for them. So we’ll get it eventually.
Might be an after the worldsoul saga thing. Theoretically working on three expansions at once will free up some time through efficiency for big projects like housing. Only time will tell.
Sadly, IF we got player housing…
It would 100% be completely personal phased.
You would not be able to interact with neighbors or walk up to someone’s house.
It would only be visible to you, and everyone would share the same plot.
I would rather not have housing compared to a solo phased house.
FF having neighborhoods where you can actually see neighbors and interact with other properties is the only way. Anything short of that is a hard pass for me.
Material costs are astronomical right now. Plus there are all kinds of labor problems w/ the various trade unions.
Don’t get me started on the corrupt councils and their zoning regulations.
It would depend on how they did it. Second Life has housing. There is Linden Labs based housing in company areas and members who buy or rent land rent out housing. There is no problem inviting friends over for … well … this is Second Life.
Honestly I think it might happen in Midnight. The Devs have been teasing some big huge ground breaking feature for Midnight and I really can’t think of anything it could be but Player housing. I could be wrong. But we’ll see when that time comes.
Could be. We’ll likely get a Silvermoon update, and the Draenei heritage quest hinted at a new city for them too. That would bring the last two racial capitals into the modern (post-Cata) age, so it would be an opportune time for it if they were going to offer different locations - which they should, at bare minimum.
And now that I think of it, Worgen just retook Gilneas, NE built a new world tree city, and there’s hints that a future TWW patch could involve Undermine, giving goblins their own city too. All they need to do is cordon off an updated section of Gnomeregan and that’s pretty much everyone covered.
Indeed. It feels like the Groundwork being set up.
But at the same time you can also question how many raid teir’s Plunderstorm costs and why Blizzard put so much effort into a system that only lasted 6 weeks instead of focusing on a system that can last several expansions.
I WISH they would take a look at how ffxiv does housing. I love it in that game.
Bosses drop materials to make furniture, guild halls and personal houses. My bunny samurai actually has house neighbors and isnt a murder hobo.
Its right there blizz! Idc if its lazy id take a copy/paste of it at this point lol.
Worst part of ffxiv housing is simply there isn’t enough for everyone.
I just hope it at least shares the functionality of entering someone else’s with the garrison.
Because they haven’t gotten around to spending the time and resources to do it. I don’t know if I trust them to do it correctly, though.
I’ll play Palia for my housing fix.
Garrisons are not real player housing. Getting tired of this old trope.
Thank you…
Good. That’s how it should be. I can still invite people to my place. Old Republic even allows keys for them to be there when you’re not around.
Because they don’t want to do it. It’s not that they can’t, they just don’t want to do it.
Yea but then we cant go look at random peoples cool houses. There’s also something to be said about having neighbors.
Love exiting my house in ffxiv and looking over to see my neighbor gardening or something xD.
Right now, all you can do is pray they take a chance, because I don’t think it adds up. Signs are they might. Pray that when (not if) it is underwhelming, they don’t give up during one expansion and stick with it until players approve.
But this is something they have stopped doing in Dragonflight - and they push out new islands for each patch rather than expanding in place, or bugfixing.
They need to prove to me they can have a multi expansion arc and can stick with an evergreen mechanic through two expansions. As it stands, I don’t believe Blizzard can make player housing. Each of the last few expansions has superceded the last or put up a new island per patch.
But they’re ambitious with the World Soul Saga - so who bets we see a first iteration of player housing in Midnight, because they have finally specced out 3 expansions at once?
