Blizzard will never do this. They allow for very little creativity in their games. Player housing does not align with their game design philosophy (play the game how we want you to play it). They always “know best” when it comes to gameplay, they want to control everything. For player housing to work they would need to change completely, you need to give creative control to the player. Garrison was their version of housing, heavily on rail experience with minimal customization. In my opinion, that is the best they will ever come up with.
The concept wasn’t relatively new. LotRO had housing in 2007, 14 years ago. I’m not sure if that was the first MMO with housing or not. Garrisons didn’t happen until 2014 and they have far less customization compared to actual player housing in other games.
I don’t have the same confidence that you do regarding Blizzard adding player housing. Maybe they don’t see the value in it that players do; I’m honestly not sure.
I don’t count garrisons as player housing - they’re a base of operations with building types more reminiscent of RTS games (e.g., barracks and stables are 2 classic RTS building types) than anything else. They have minimal customization unlike housing in any other MMO that I’ve seen.
Played EQ2 for years and the player housing was totally off the chain fantastic. It created a whole economy for furniture builders, rare items etc. You could also display your old legendary weapons and armour in them as well as faction items (what we call covenants) and PVP honors. I remember farming for rubies for HOURS just so that a furniture maker could make me a rare table Not sure why Blizz wont take the leap but its a great time sink, money sink and mini-game especially for “casuals”. Guild halls were another thing that consumed tons of resources. You could put trophies of the bosses downed in them. SWTOR has decent housing as well, I miss my Condo Mansion in Drumond Kaas Ill be back to it one day.
I’d love it as long as it wasn’t as anxiety-producing as Garrisons. I always felt pressured to click every NPC and complete every task or I’d end up chasing bugs in my house (like in Animal Crossing).
I had a house in LOTRO, it was cute. Not as good as EQ2 or SWTOR but decent.
No, but it’d be nice if we could have our garrisons use our racial architecture scheme.
I’m still waiting for my damn dance studio.
If you dont think everything you do in WoW is literally playing make believe, you need to seek help.
