Player Housing: A forgotten and missed opportunity

Garrisons should have been outside SW/Org, then they would not have gone obsolete and felt as isolating.
They should have been fully customizable player housing.

Items for housing should be craft able and drop in old dungeons/raids to be collected.

Separate guild halls.

It’s never too late to make this happen

This is what would happen to my house, which is why I don’t want one. How long has it been since you visited your farm?

I murdered an entire neighborhood in Balmora so I could empty out their houses and use their shelves to display all my weapons and armor…

Hey, if a bunch of devs from Squeenix can pull it off, nothing says Blizzard can’t.

… and did you do a search of these forums first before starting this thread?

/dead horse beaten in yet again

Player housing/garrisons/farms would be such a fun way of utilising the rest of the world from previous expansions. I’d love to have a farm somewhere. But they’d have to find a way not to make it grindy.

It would have to be optional content. Like some other suggestions on this thread, it would be a fun alternative to those of us who don’t much care for raiding. Honestly, from a business standpoint, I think it would be a great thing for Blizz to implement because it might retain many players such as myself who don’t like the current expansion but still like playing in the WoW universe, as well as attract new players who aren’t into fighting games but like high fantasy.

Give us options for locations, types of housing, and activities, etc. Let my elves and trolls play Stardew Valley in Highmountain or Grizzly Hills or Feralas or any other old zone. And make the products profitable so we can farm or hunt or whatever and feel like we have a decent ROI.

I kinda wished I had played when Garrisons were current… well I did but didn’t subscribe 'cause of issues landing a job lul.

I think it was a neat idea but having ‘player housing’ while fun, I’d first want them to create a fun core game. Shoving ‘player housing’ in wouldn’t automatically make me go ‘omg i love this expansion’.

We got a rush job on pseudo-garrison tech with covenants that really doesn’t cut it for me.

Garrisons are player housing, just saying.

Garrisons were a lazy attempt at player housing.

Where’s the customization?

I can’t set up a Gilnean style home in my Garrison with Suramar and Void/High Elf assets inside.

it wasn’t a missed oppurtunity cause the devs and way more players don’t want it. if housing is so awesome why has blizz stayed ahead of any game that has it? maybe because they worry more about combat and things that really matter and keep players cause all i see is people complaining about combat and the failures every other game has and how it sucks and why they playerbase is still lower than wow. no thanks.

To you. Not everyone plays this game for the same things you enjoy. Hence why the game has more than just combat to begin with. Crazy thing about an MMO that is made for millions of people worldwide - its not all about ONE thing.

I don’t play wow, or any game for that matter, to play house or make believe, or whatever it is that people do with housing. I play wow to play wow. Ya know, endgame activities

The only reason I defend housing in WoW is so it can prop up our crafting. Being able to craft furniture for people would help tremendously for professions which have been a joke for a long time now.

One solution for the “space problem” is to have instanced housing areas attached to each zone in the game.

So for example, if you want to build your house in Elwynn, there’s a portal not too far from Stonecairn Lake, and going through it takes you a section of Elwynn that’s specifically designed for player housing. It could be as large or larger than the parent zone to make it feel spacious and “real”, and if it fills up portals can appear on the north, east, south, and west sides of the zone to take you to newly opened additions.

Through this, each zone would have effectively unlimited housing space, and it’d have the neat effect of creating player towns where you could ride around and see how everybody’s decorated their houses.

there are sooo many places in wow with 0 objects or npc for 1000s of yards. claim a plot on your server, choose from a catalog of every object/building in the game to spawn in.

i dream of open world player housing in wow.

Will there be trackable (this is important) stuff for me to collect? If it was just a house where I can go to do “stuff” then no but if I can collect lamps from Stratholme and curtains from Black Temple I’m in.

Housing and farming is something that makes me want to actually try FF14. WoW is great for raids and dungeon content, and I doubt they’ll ever be beaten (for me). But they’re sincerely missing opportunity to have cosmetic stuff that isn’t tied behind a stupid grind, and housing. I don’t think FF14 is the best with housing (Wildstar had that) but I really love the idea of having a fully customizable home that belongs to me. And the sheer amount of cosmetic drops you could spread throughout the world to keep things relevant. I don’t think Blizzard optimizes old world or extra activities.

I would love housing.

so you are telling me the majority of players ain’t in shadowlands pushing forward with current stuff and all that. wow has pushed end game forever and progressing and there good at it why they are more popular than any other mmo out there. best raids, dungeons, all that stuff and someone must like it more than housing cause it still sits at the top cause combat is good in this game to unlike ff and any other game with housing, i might say okay if they actually passed wow up but it ain’t happening, you know it and i know it. housing has did nothing for those games to pass wow up cause they ignore so many things that people want and evidently wow has the right form going after 16yrs so why change it when it works so good.

empty zones are there for a reason cause they are old and people are progressing in new content as always since forever.
