Played WoW for 25 Years… But It Doesn’t Feel Fun Anymore

I am not talking about the perception of crossing a zone, but its actual size.

Is Isle of Dorn really any bigger than a zone like Hellfire? Really doesn’t seem so to me.

I suppose I’d say the other three are but the Isle feels pretty compact to me.

The perceived size of the newer zones with faster flying makes them feel small, and that does actually matter. It was far more rewarding traversing the old zones by foot the first couple of times, it just got real old real fast.

You can say they’re denser but in no way are they larger.

There may be the occasional outlier. But I am confident that TWW and DF has more landmass of outdoor zones than TBC

Ok.

But thats a completely different topic.

Of course they are larger. They had to be to compensate for dragonflying. Else we’d be across them in a couple seconds like in classic zones.

Going to Shat and pinning The Eye gives me a 6.2K distance and is ~1.5 BC zones.

Dorn is about 5K across.

Yeh it’s not much bigger now.

Ackthuallly they are not actually all that much larger anyway, BC zones were quite sizeable.

But physical or perceived, it makes no difference, if we find ourselves going across an entire zone in 20 seconds it doesn’t matter how much bigger they are.

Only DF zones were sizeably larger because they were the OG dragon riding zones, and they have the faster dragon riding speed. Remember they reduced the speed outside of DF so it didn’t feel so small, but also then decided to make the TW zones smaller.

So I went ahead and took the liberty of testing this myself and found flying from one side of Ringing Deeps to the other, and flying from one side of Hellfire to the Dark Portal, to be pretty comparable in time to fly.

And in any case - even if we were to assume that Outland zones were smaller on average than a zone in TWW, it’s very unlikely the four zones in TWW would encompass Outland’s seven. You might be able to say TWW’s four zones is comparable to five. But seven? No way. By and large, we’re getting less open world zones.

Its not easy to throw out an addiction you’ve put 25 years of your life into.

That’s not WoW, though. That’s Warcraft as a franchise.

I’ve been playing “WoW” for at least 28 years in that case, then. So obviously my opinion matters more because I have seniority.

But sure, I can engage in his wrong arguments.

Bro is mad about more content, the majority of which is catchup for alts or optional for cosmetic. If anything, you actually have to do less daily chores than you ever had to in WoW these days. And he just conveniently ignores all the limited time events that WoW has always had like getting Scarab Lord, or Server First achievements. Or all the daily chores in TBC and WOTLK.

He’s completely wrong here as well because classes play differently to each other. A Fire mage does not play the same as a Destro Warlock, and a Prot Warrior plays differently than a Blood DK. And in terms of utility, some classes are still more valuable than others because of that utility they bring.

This isn’t something Blizzard controls. This is because the internet has changed over 25 years.

There. Arguments engaged with, and refuted with facts and logic. If he doesn’t like retail that’s fine, he can literally just do something else or play classic. They keep releasing that game for people who can’t let go of it, so he’ll be fine.

So, if an opinion differs from yours you classify it as whining?

You may want to change your expectations.

I no longer chase FOMO. I only play to have fun and relax, so i don’t grind anything.

I don’t expect to have high achievements or great gear. I still play the game a couple of hours a week and have fun.

If i am not having fun, i don’t play. This is not a second career.

Developers will never please everyone. For me, the game is in a good place.

I am no longer blown away because the game is 22 years old.

if its not fun, unsub and move on. nobody is forcing you to stay subbed.

I played wow for 71 years since thats how math works apparently

If you have no time for a game of grind, you would always be overwhelmed. Why not play a game that is not a game of grind? Like play something else that is not an MMO if you don’t want to be overwhelmed.

Compare yourself to million players playing this game. You would realize that you are among those who has limited play time. And it is not your fault. You either find time to enjoy and play it or play something else.

You have made the assumption that time sink is one of my criticisms when it is not.

If you are actually curious, which you probably aren’t, these are a couple things that have changed that I wish hadn’t:

The way professions work. I think they were fine pre Legion.

PVP gear and gearing and everything else PvP I think was in a perfect spot pre late stage WOD.

The story. The story really went off the rails.

I’m not going to write a book, but my issue isn’t time. I actually like stuff like the new flying and how they’ve tried to make the game more accessible to new players, but not things like “single button assist” lol

I am just quoting this:

The systems and currencies would not morphed like monsters if you have decent enough play time. It could be overwhelming but it wont be a monster that you dont like.

Ok, you’re just replying to reply and not trying to actually have a discussion. I knew I was expecting too much.

Was the game ever fun? Or was it the people that made it fun?
