Playable Hawaiian/Polynesian Race

what if you can be a living stitch though :open_mouth: in different colors And I will play the DemiGod Maui - - -

Māui or Maui is the great culture hero and trickster in Polynesian mythology. Very rarely was Māui actually worshipped, being less of a deity (Demigod) and more of a folk hero. His origins vary from culture to culture, but many of his main exploits remain relatively similar.

And you will all worship me

Given all of the crazy hair styles and colors they bragged about at blizzcon, I really hope the Earthen dwarves, are like, you know, ‘stoned’ all of the time. Hah.

Polynesian isn’t a race. It’s a culture.

That’s what they said, but they want a race that reflects the culture, using examples like goblins reflect New Yorker culture.

In my personal opinion at great risk of being flagged again, I think people would likely criticize it like they did Mists of Pandaria, which I thought was amazing, but some people think its stereotypical ( I hope I said all that tactfully).
There was a little island vibe in the zone north of Zandalar but it was subtle ( I think likely on purpose) It would be interesting to have a race with a Polynesian vibe , but I would be worried it might offend rather than complement.
That is probably why it hasnt happened.
For example, we have African American characters , but wow hasn’t ventured in to making it a race because it would require extreme finesse not to insult anybody and represent the culture.
I am not even sure if you had a historian doing story line if they could make it fly straight.
But Africa has always fascinated me as a lot of our history started there ages ago.
IE , if you can think of a way to do it without offending anybody , I think it should be considered.

Technically it’s a sub-group of a racial group called Pacific Islanders.
Micronesia, Polynesia, and Melanesia.

Are you more comfortable with the term ethnicity? Because this is more than just a ‘culture’.

If done right, sure, a polynesian themed culture would be interesting. Although this is WoW, IDK how they would put thier spin on an islander culture.

A shark-like race based on Polynesians would go hard

It was my understanding that WoW races are moving away from RL inspired cultures as they’re seen as caricatures by some progressive groups.

nah dwarves are beards.

Do Ironforge dwarven females grow beards?

I like the Djaradin. But they are huge. Are we gonna have mini Djaradins? Idk. Seems silly.

Ahahaha, you’re feign death is no match for the almighty and powerful frying pan. Though this one is made of foam for some reason…

All female dwarves should have beards.

Which is a shame, because it’s not done so as appropriation, more like appreciation and inspiration.

I don’t know how much of members of those groups intersect with the WoW playerbase. Plus with so many people with conflicting values and principles, it’s not realistic to go through life being afraid of offending people. So it could be amazing if the devs took the consideration of the interest of WoW’s playerbase instead of those who may be offended at what WoW does, yet doesn’t play.

I completely agree with you but have you seen people these days?

Certain hairstyles, music, art, etc are deemed “cultural appropriation” if someone they don’t like is interested in them.

Lore is already retconned or buried in the name of “inclusivity”.

Your idea is completely genuine and valid and yet so many would pick it apart if in some way implemented.

I’m interested in a race that looks cool, gets a new rig and fits in with the WoW universe. If they happen to be Polynesian, that’s cool, if not, big deal.
