Subjective opinion is subjective.
Beginning of BfA, many players name griefed a lot of non-RP players with spam reporting. Players lost their long-time names and some got suspended when they refused to select an RP compliant game.
If anything, Blizzard has stepped up their policing if the community complains.
I wonder if RCR had anything to do with that.
If you spend any amount of extended time playing on an RP server in retail right now, you’ll see that the atmosphere is factually different. There are less g4m3r br0s, and trade is less of a crapstorm.
Wanted to echo the bit about stupid character names. It’s actually required by the RP server ruleset to have a passably fantasy-like name (so for example Bullshoot or Darkstab wouldn’t be allowed). If you violate this rule, people WILL report you for it and you’ll be issued a forced name change.
…and eventually suspended if you keep renaming to non-RP names.
Id be all over RP-PVP if it wasnt only Pacific
For timezone or latency reasons? If it’s the latter the latency increase isn’t perceptible in most circumstances. My main here is on an EST server even though I live in Cali.
Little bit of both. For Time Zones, Itll be really late here by the time anyone wants to raid or do bgs on west coast. Ill be busy with school most of the time so it is important I wait as little as possible when I do get time to play.
Im the furthest east you can get in NA. We have our own timezone just for our island. I get about the same ping from West coast servers as I do from EU. (100-120 based on a ping test) Still 50 ping for Chicago though.
So I can wait really late for PST, or be early for EU if I dont find a EST server
As some one who’s gone through much of what he’s said don’t let it deter you lol
Remember the audience… these are players that are getting agitated because of streamer fans.
Grob will be much worse for them.
You see threats I see allies. Yeah the servers forums are toxic but if you never log onto the ED forums you’re fine. And I have suffered some of the worst harassment in my earlier days on ED but you know what? I’de do it all again, because the PvP was worth it. These rivalries made me feel alive and I admittedly have not had as much fun since nor have I been as competitive about anything since.
RP-PvP is highs and lows and you can bet a group of people who want to pretend to be their characters is going to be way to into the game but. With that you will get WPvP leagues above other servers and rivalries that feel real. Idek every one seems hell bent on turning away potential new RPers and we may need the population.
That’s debatable. Don’t get me wrong we always had large guilds who could pool responses to streamer armies (though only a couple popped up in my time) but I think dealing with an Angry scrub like Asmond who will rally his fan base if he gets ganked is worse than most things I dealt with.
Again, we’re talking about a group of players that are so bothered by streamer fans that they make countless threads to complain about it and want to make dang sure they are not on their server.
If they are that thin-skinned, they think Grob/ED will be a good, non-toxic place for them?
Honestly, whatever. It’s their choice. I’m just giving them the goods of what to expect.
might roll on rp pvp but dont plan on rping, how long do dungeons usually take with everyone rping in the group? hours?
That’s fair I mean when I hear of streamer threats my first thoughts are to gather every guild I know on my faction group up and take em out. Not avoid them.
RP isnt some kind of super special club only for hardcore people with backstories. For many its the ruleset and the increased feeling of immersion. Ive played on RP servers for 10 years, and have participated in maybe 2 events. They are still great places for regular players. And many people want to avoid streamers for good reasons.
This doesnt really happen. Guilds will run these types of dungeons with friends for that express purpose, but pugs don’t usually do anything other than some people might talk in character
What’s General Chat like on an RP server?
it ~should~ be more helpful overall as its an OOC channel because of its reach in a zone. Still i would expect there to be some banter but not as bad as what you find on the test realms atm. I cant speak to how the barrens will pan out overall.
