Play Dead bug

The pets will not get up off the ground no matter how many times you press the key when part of a macro, and intermittently does not function when used stock. The cooldown on this ability should not be affecting your ability to MAKE THEM GET UP. It makes the skill a hindrance and not at all helpful when you have your pets faceplant then cannot make them get up without casting dismiss for 3s and then resummoning them- with a delay on your second pet popping out on top of 3 gcd’s spent and a long cast.

Shouldn’t this be on the Bug forums for the visibility, Not that I can relate with this issue but I imagine it’d go further there than on the hunter class forums. This place is def ignored by Devs.

If this does not work for you, then it deff sounds like a bug.

I myself use the following macro:

#showtooltip Feign Death
/cast Feign Death
/cast Play Dead

Which is just, well, what it looks like really. Macroed FD + PD together into one button press. If I press it, both me and my pets “drop” to the ground. I can freely move again whenever I want to and when I press that button(with the macro bound to it) a second time, my pets also get up again.

This macro has never failed for me, although I admit, there have been a select few moments where I’ve forgotten to press the button again and stood there like a moron wondering why my Kill Command doesn’t work :roll_eyes:


Anyway, if your macro looks the same and it still fails whenever you press it that second time to get your pets back up, it deff sound like a bug.


I would very much want Play Dead work for pets like it does for us as the Hunters.

Bascially, if you cast Play Dead, the pet(s) should drop to the ground, but if you then press for example Kill Command, the Play Dead “channel” should automatically cancel itself and your pet(s) should heed that Kill Command.
Or, the same with Barbed Shot as another example. Press it, and the pet(s) should stop playing dead and charge the target.

Why it’s not coded like this already, I cannot tell…

For this at least, just add /use Wake Up to the relevant ability macros.

I’m not experiencing this at all.

Do you have any macros or addons that are impacting how this works?

It’s a workaround indeed. I just find it a bit annoying to have to include that when the ability can be designed with that in mind, by default.

The command to get your pet is

/use wake up

I’m assuming that’s what you’re typing?

I actually had this happen to me once too. I had to dismiss and re-summon the pet. It only happened once, so I just ignored it. Should probably go to the bug forums though. It’s interesting there is a workaround. That means it will probably never be fixed.

This.’ Play Dead’ is not a toggle. It is more like the pet is stunned, and no other actions are possible untill the stun is ‘broken’.

That macro is what I used to use- except for pvp you dont want your pets faceplanting with you 9/10 because its an extra keypress to wake them and not typically helpful in the first place.
However- it doesn’t seem to help with the Play Dead bug. Im not 100% sure what actually causes them to be unresponsive yet either. Periodically they simply don’t respond to the Wake Up call.
I’ve tried macros etc but the only answers seem to be double pressing for instant cancellation so fast that it doesn’t actually take effect(why bother?) and simply not bothering haha. To repeat what an above poster said this “play dead” state is the same as the pets being rooted/stunned at the same time they can take no action what so ever until the skill is activated the second time, this being baked into the macro to double cast is the same as never having casted it so that won’t work as a solution.
To be clear it USUALLY works but its very inconvenient the few times it doesn’t.

p.s this is not a complaining thread I just wanted to make sure it was out there and see if others had the issue as well. I’ve submitted a couple bug reports but others should feel free to do the same!

Feign Death whenever I’m in combat. Pet also feigns if I press shift. Forces Feign Death on player and pet if I press shift out of combat while specced into Camouflage. Camouflage out of combat when talented.

Happens to me all the time. I have to dismiss pet to fix it, which is annoying mid boss fight or in the Maw.

Its the ability fails to switch, so feign death doesn’t change to the wake up ability.
Also happens with my mend pet/revive pet. Also fun.

Hunter pets are so buggy right now.

One thing to make clear, I always play MM.
I’ve got the abilities Hot-Keyed, Feign death to the ‘P’ key, Play Dead to the Bracket key, next to the ‘P’ key. The play dead thumbnail changes to Wake up! thumbnail upon the initial activation.
I come out of Feign death by deliberatly moving. My pet, I HAVE to use the wake up command. I don’t have any problems with function.
