In a thread the other day it dawned on me that I can go back to the Inn in the Wetlands, it was my favorite Inn in the game back then.
Then I walked into the Stormwind bank…instant flashback.
On the Horde side being in Old Orgrimmar is nice, and UnderCity is still the best. But what places am I missing that just aren’t there any more?
Any other places you have missed and are happy to see again?
Southshore for me. Nice to see a strong Alliance presence there again. I love the rest of the changes to retail wow.

Darnassus of course and all of Teldrassil are a huge part of why I have always loved Night Elves. Seeing Thousand Needles/Shimmering Flats not underwater and in their original glory was nostalgic.
The original version of Darkshore leveling was also great and I missed that.

Its nice not seeing Astranaar getting rekt, and Ashenvale not burning to death. No huge vortex in Westfall, and The Barrens one zone again. Oh and 1k needles not being a freaking swimming pool, I hated that boat crap, and I missed the gnome vs. goblin Shimmering Flats race course there.

Alterac Mountains is my favorite place in the game.

I never saw any of these places before now, as I started at the beginning of Cataclysm.
So far the parts that I’ve really enjoyed are:
- Barrens with no flaming gash through the middle
- Thousand Needles before the water
- Loch Modan with water in it
- Hillsbrad in general. It’s weird to see a significant human presence. I kind of miss Welcome to the Machine, though.
- Scarlet Monastery- This one I did get to see the original instances back in Cata but I forgot a lot of stuff about them. I did all four wings last night and had a blast! Except when the warrior needed on Whitemane’s Chapeau and couldn’t trade it.

Southshore. The Dam in Loch Modan. Tarren Mill before they made it disgusting with their post modern chic-goth art style. Same with Brill and The Sepulcher.

the dam in loch modan was nice to see again, I remember going across that many times thinking wow. pretty sure I snapped some screenshot back then too.
That area was ruined in cataclysm

Tanaris with the original music is where I am excited to get to. Running ZF again as well!

One of the many things I don’t like about retail is how crowded the landscape is. They literally crammed something into every space they could. It’s seems unnatural and unrealistic to a fantasy world.

Lol your eyebrows are poking out of your hat and they look like little pink devil horns!

its not just a place, but the weather(and the weatherchildren and weatherwomen too)
rain, snow, dust storms, all of it
There is something to be said about contrasting large empty spaces with tight packed spaces. It’s like in music how sometimes a rest can be more interesting than a bar of sixteenth notes.
Classic has a lot of empty space and also has some denser places.
Modern WoW zone design is packed to the gills. There are no shimmering flats in retail.

Southshore, Stormwind Park, Menethil Harbor… mostly places that were wrecked during the Cataclysm. It’s one of the few expansion teasers that made my eyes mist up with all the destruction of my favorite places.
The original Sunken Temple. Missed this big time.

Something else I completely forgot about…
The 5 second rule for Mana regeneration.
Southshore and Loch Modan in their pre-Cata state.
Also nice to see Menethil Harbor not be a semi-submerged wreck.
