Places to Find Alliance RP (Stormwind or elsewhere)

Hello!
I’m a player that is returning after a very long time away. I’m a veteran to the RPG world (Dont say “old”) and to RP and I’m looking for good places to hang out in Stormwind or in other locales for interesting RP.

My current characters are low level (one of which is on purpose and is a “challenge character”) and I just couldn’t take Goldshire. I’ve run to the supposed safety of Stormwind for the time being. Are there other places, even in Kul Tiras, that function as RP hangout zones?

Thanks in advance!

Just Stormwind, I’m afraid. You’ll want to join a guild or get a group of friends to drag out into the world.

Now, the Horde has the benefit that Silvermoon and Orgrimmar are fabulous for Roleplay.

Occasionally it’s in other places but as select groups like a meeting of DK in Acherus. The Inn in Dalaran. Yearly Argent Tournament gathering

I would assume he wants to find more consistent gatherings rather than events, so to speak. But these are good locations none the less to find Roleplay.

True. Without a guild or RP group…goldshire/SW docks.

This is my favorite though

Do people still hang out in Gilneas? I remember that was pretty big for awhile.

It’s become more of a hotbed for events. But ever since the “Cat Clan RP” craze seemed to have died down. Gilneas returned to its barren wasteland of lost potential.

Sometimes in the Chapel. Haven’t really checked lately. RP has been small pockets in odd places like Hearthglen

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. Yeah, I was mainly looking for places which are regular “hotspots” for RP players to gather and meet each other IC. I shifted over to Moon Guard as I realized the server I originally restarted on was NOT an RP server. Just hoping to find some good stories out there.

For right now your best bet is SW, can’t walk ten feet without tripping over roleplayers. People here are pretty friendly so I think you’ll have an easy time.

If you have WM off, you can find a good number of people in Boralus after probably 5 PM server time. The tradewinds market area has people by virtue of essentially being the center of commerce for most 1-49 level characters and with this being a roleplaying server, I’ve seen walk-up rp break out there quite a few times.

There is also the Upton Town Square area near Proudmoore Keep. It has several bars that are used by roleplayers and I’ve often seen others gathered around the fire pit there. The area is right next Unity Square/Proudmoore Keep which a lot of the Kul Tiras guilds use regularly (ourselves included) so the chances are more likely than not you may find something going on in that area in the evening. They’ll often make their way through the Upton area after events.

Obviously Stormwind is going to remain the key center because it is built to be the center for alliance outside the expansion centers, so most paths flow there eventually. Pretty much every district of Stormwind has active roleplay going on during the evenings, with the Cathedral District, Park, and Mage Quarter seeing largest numbers.

Oh. Hi! It’s glad to have you back in–

Oh. Oh, no. No, no, no.

On a more serious level, I should chime in that the information you’ve got is right on the money. Stormwind is indeed where y’all get the most bang for your buck; a phrase, in hindsight, I probably should not have used given your exposure to Goldshire.

I will add that just saying ‘Stormwind’ may give a bit of the wrong impression. While there are some moments of downtime, by and large, each district has a fairly consistent RP presence. The Cathedral, Old Town, Mage Quarter (Mage), and Mage Quarter (Warlock…it’s like ‘Mage’, but with ‘edge’). Trade District doesn’t really have a lot that I’ve seen, but, you know, players need to actually do things to play the game there.

You can frequently find things you didn’t know about. I, for example, didn’t even know about RP on the docks.

As far as other places, yes, things are frequently happening in areas of Boralus that aren’t the Tradewinds Market. Stuff in the little bars is fun. Duskwood can also hold events and sometimes has people schlepping around, as does Redridge.

As a heads up, you’ll also frequently notice a lot of people just standing around at these places, especially Stormwind. A lot of people are ready and willing to RP, just, kind of waiting for something to happen. As you’re old a veteran to the RPG world, I’ll assume you know about TRP or MRP or other such add-ons. These have the benefit of letting you see if someone is actually open to walk-up RP (which is the majority of hotspot RP), or if they’re just waiting for their dungeon.

Good luck, have fun, and welcome to Moon Guard!

Signed,
someone else old who’s a veteran of the RPG world.

There’s a relatively active presence (or was) in the Darkshire/Duskwood areas (WM off), at least pre-Shadowlands.

Now that the content hype is calmed down I expect it to pick back up out in Darkshire again.

Stormwind is pretty much where I go to RP, but this thread has made me think about going to different places. I really wish more people RPed in Dalaran, though.

Echoing Wenzli, Gilneas has died down, but I do see people there every once in a while. Other locations I’ll echo here are Boralus, Lakeshire, and Darkshire.

But really, there needs to be a whole server-wide movement to get out into the open world. There’s so much cool stuff and Stormwind is, frankly, Pretty Boring as far as RP locations go.

(And also, lowkey, Blizzard needs to take its head out of its butt and stop making Stormwind the be-all-end-all for every facet of gameplay. This is supposed to be a world and they’re not living up to the game’s title.)

Sharding hasn’t really helped in that regard sadly. I’d personally love to see more RP in Arathi, there’s a whole keep there just begging to be used!

Didn’t even think about Arathi! I love that!

I’d like to see more RP in the Hinterlands, Plaguelands, Feralas, any Goblin-occupied cities… My list could go on.

There are some beautiful cities, towns, locations for RP, but as you wrote, having Stormwind as the hub of all activity makes every other city obsolete and feel abandoned. Not sure what can be done about it, but perhaps each expansion moves the hub?

Since we are now in the SLs, what if the access to that realm had to start from Boralus, the main hub of the previous expansion? Force the population to Kul Tiras. Maybe Stormwind is undergoing major renovations and must be vacated. shrug I don’t know. Throwing darts.

They kind of tried that in the BC / Wrath era, but clearly Blizzard didn’t like that since the only other time they went back to a hub city with any actual gusto was Legion.

Which is sad. I RP’d with a friend in Boralus last night, at an open-aired tavern along the water. I had never stopped in at this place before. So much fun. Boralus is such an amazing city, the atmosphere is spot on. It’s unfortunate the designers craft such beautiful places only to see them abandoned within a year.

However, if you want to go to lands and pretend to be the main hero, you more than likely will be. Just you walking Pandaria like a boss.
