Place your bets for Nerfstakes 2024!

Every expansion, the devs nerf a few species. Mostly not by a huge amount, but enough to take a bit off the top.

In general, I approve of this effect and this cadence. It makes a small overall change to the most used pets without damaging their integrity.

Until last expansion, I could also say that I approved of the changes. Teroclaw, Undead racial, Haunt and others were appropriate. I still grieve a bit for Howlbomb, and I think there was a better fix for Teroclaw, but mostly they got it close to right.

Until last expansion.

There we had a sorta-kinda nerfish thing for Shattered Defenses that did almost nothing to tame Ikky, plus a totally insane and unjustifiable buff to Sandstorm damage that still has my eyes rolling. While not quite as wrong, I’m still somewhat exercised about the Shattered Defenses mistake, which hardly affected Ikky - which is the actual problem - and damaged so many reliable but not overpowered pets. I demonstrated this on spreadsheets in the Beta forums, but was yelling into the Void.

And then there’s what they did to Flurry. :frowning: A huge disappointment.

What I wish we might see this year is to undo everything they did last time, then make a targeted nerf to Ikky and a couple of very small nerfs to maybe Anomalus, maybe TMD?

But apart from that wishcasting, the question here is what you think they WILL do.

In previous expansions - I think the last three? - we had some advance communication about the expected changes, allowing for some feedback.

This expansion, so far, nothing.

I think we will see no changes this time. I’m not sure they have anyone paying attention to it.

I haven’t even seen that battle pets are out in the wild to battle yet. Or have I missed something obvious, like a big ole green paw right in front of my face? Cuz yeah, that can happen.

If referring to the Beta, I have been battling wild caught pets in it, so they are there.

Well heck, clearly I haven’t been paying attention!

At the risk of stating the obvious, is your tracking turned on for it? Sometimes mine turns itself off, would imagine in Beta bound to happen more so.

Since I purchased the new expansion, I should be able to access Beta. How do I get into it?

Ok, I see Squally in your collection, so you have the Epic edition.

Do you see the Beta listing in the In Development section of the dropdown list on the launcher for WoW?

Thank you for the assist. I appreciate the help.

I’ve tried using Squally a few times. With his lightning shield, call lightning and his flashy new lightning bolt attack (which, as far as I know, he’s the first to have it), I imagine he would fare best against mechanical pets.

I haven’t really had much chance to work with him, but perhaps I’ll do some killing in Mechagon and see how he does. I wish his breed was better.

You’re welcome. Glad to help.

Also, to expand further on the info for playing the Beta.

Once you get it installed, be sure to choose the Beta tab at the bottom to get to the Beta servers. “These Go to Eleven” is for max level instance and profession testing. The others are the leveling servers.

As a heads up with Squally, once the 11.0 pre-patch goes live summoning her will start a quest to obtain three friends, to match the other three mount color variations.
