Please hear me out,
The pitlord is so cool, and summoning such a demon fits the demonology fantasy so well.
But nether portal… ugh
Nether Portal is not well designed for todays environment. Even if it summoned demons based on shards spent (which it should if the current design is going to be kept) it would still not be great.
It’s biggest flaw is that is requires you to find a place and time where you can plant your feet and free cast for its entire duration.
The game has steadily been moving away from casters being immobile cannons for some time, so this type of CD will always be a challenge to fully utilize, even if it’s an extremely cool ability.
I’d very much like to see the pitlord become part of demos kit, but in a way that does not require nether portal, OR where nether portal does not feel like a hinderance to take as a talent.
Perhaps nether portal could be turned into a passive. Something like “For every X amount of soul shards spent, you tear open a nether portal and command a Greater Demon to come forward and fight.”
The Pitlord could piggy back off of this and perhaps be a choice node that increases the shards required to tear open a Nether Portal, BUT when you do, it summons a Pitlord instead of weaker demons.
And maybe the other choice node could reduce the shards required to open the nether portal, or it could cause 2 demons to come forth when you open the portal.
Pitlord could also become a standalone summon, but I think that would probably be a bit too similar to Grimoire: Felguard. Although I would be by no means opposed to Grimoire: Pitlord lol.
Both the pit lord and nether portal are very very cool abilities, but with the current design, nether portal isn’t great mechanically and the pit lord is locked behind nether portals lacking functionality.
I think it would do a lot for the spec if these two talents could be changed to work better in todays environment, or divorced from each other so nether portal doesn’t continue to drag the pitlord down with it.
Thank you
