Pirate Gastronomy, and small flame sacs

Who had the brilliant idea of making a Small Flame Sac be one of the requirements for the 20-year celebration quest “Pirate Gastronomy”?!

If this were still (say) Cataclysm, where the drop rate was 16% from the whelps in the Badlands, this would be fine. But the drop rate nowadays is 0.4% from the same whelps. I’ve been farming for nearly two hours and have yet to see a Small Flame Sac drop. The area is being farmed so heavily by so many players that the average lifespan of a newly-spawned whelp is less than 10 seconds! The going Auction House price for a Small Flame Sac is currently in the 5 digits.

Could you replace this with something more reasonable and easier to obtain, like Thunderfury?

You can kill the darters in the Capital Gardens in Dire Maul above the tree boss without competition since it’s in an instance. I missed several of the mobs on my first attempt, but found the upper platform on my second attempt and got one pretty quickly. Wowhead lists the drop rate as 30% from the darters.

It is not 30%. The devs janked the drop rate.

By “Janked”, do you mean raised, or lowered? I don’t follow the cool hipster slang you kids these days use.

Whatever it is, it will surely be better than what the OP was doing before.

Also, the price is down to just under 3k now. I pretty much got one from each trash run out of the few times I went in.

It took me 5 or 6 runs to get one small flame sac.
