Picking a new fun main in DragonFlight

Hi all!

I know these posts are probably frequent, myself making several over the years, but here I am again trying to find a main - this time for Dragonflight.

This might be long and I’ll do a TLDR at the end but as a backstory, me and my friend play WoW along with other games together and he has always mained a Havoc DH (warrior prior to DH) and will continue to do so along with Evoker in DF. Anything we do is together, open world, low key M+, RF/Normal Raiding. Anywho, I want to try to settle on a main that I’m committed to like he has with DH.

I don’t really have to worry about leveling a new toon (except to 70) as I have at least one of each class at 60 across 2 high pop realms. I tend to skip around a lot and jump from spec to spec. It’s not that I get bored, but rather I enjoy playing all specs as I haven’t found one that hasn’t been fun imo.

However, I have a career and a life outside of WoW with my wife (she plays too along with Overwatch mostly) and I just can’t dedicate enough time to playing all the specs at once and getting them all up to par (even with the easier progression in DF), so I need to settle on a main class and at least 1 or possibly 2 alts if I really can’t decide.

As far as roles go, I have tried them all and have fun with them all. That being said, in order of most like to least liked it goes Ranged DPS, Melee DPS, healer, tank. I don’t mind RNG/ procs in a build; I kind of like that randomness in most cases. Some specs that have resonated with me well in the past have been spriest, arcane/fire mage, assassination/outlaw rogue, balance/resto/bear druid. As sort of indicated from my preference, it seems I have a passion for underdog specs (with a couple outliers). The only classes I have not being feeling as of late but could maybe change with enough persuasion is warlock, paladin, and shaman.

With all of this in mind, does anyone else have any elaborations on classes/specs I might should at least considering maining/main alt or at least trying in DF? Any suggestions as to why I should pick them up/ why they are fun would be appreciated too. My main goal is to just find something that is straight fun and dopamine inducing (interesting and subjective concept, I know) and possibly something that might have synergy or pair well with my friend’s picks. This could even be not so obvious things I wouldn’t think of like “Rogue pairs well with DH bc you can share armor with him”.

TLDR: Looking for a main and 1 or 2 alts. Playing with my Havoc DH friend. Looking for something really dopamine inducing and fun(yes, subjective I know). Plan on pushing heavy M+ mainly, but may dip my toes in the new raid at higher difficulties and solo shuffle at times.

Edit - put the classes I haven’t been feeling good on towards the top of the post.

Your DH would buff your damage 5% as a caster so keep that in mind. Monk is a lot of fun as well but if your favorite is ranged dps then you’re out of luck with that. Hunter would check the boxes for your 2 favorite roles though, melee and ranged.

My recommendation for you is Shaman. You’ll have your 3 favorite roles of melee, ranged, and healer. Your elemental damage will be buffed by 5% from demon hunter and as enhance you’ll get a lot out of that as well. Resto shaman is a lot of fun. And shaman transmog and spell effects are amazing looking.

I agree with everyone’s else option go warlock

I’d say druid because it can perform all 4 roles, but honestly balance isn’t so fun right now.

If you mainly want to do ranged dps, probably warlock like everyone said because they do good damage, are tanky and have lots of utility.

WW monk.

Especially after easy-button DH.

Personally I think ur looking at this weird. What do YOU wanna be??? I used to think the same way and look at every cranny for every detail. Listen. Do I want be a cool dragon that uses magic of the dragon aspects?! Do I want to be a fat chicken that summons lasers and uses nature magic?! Also typhoon?! You need something emotional to make it stick because otherwise you’ll never stick to it. :man_shrugging: :cloud_with_rain: My 3 cents.

OP is more of a dps kind of guy. WW is fun and kinda busted right now, but it’s the only dps spec monk has. If WW stops being fun, he’s kinda screwed.

Might try a Holy Priest.

My favorite spec.

Easy to level and a good number of healing spells. A Holy Priest puts out about twice the DPS that a Shadow Priest does.

The only issue is in doing content like dungeons, PvP, Raids etc.

No one will let you just DPS in that spec. The spec is great in leveling.

Blizz fix your game pls

Funny how you are posting on the best class to main on Dragonflight asking what to play.

Shaman. All 3 specs slap.

Never thought I’d say Paladin but they’re so much fun. I’m having an absolute blast playing every paladin spec currently. Nay sayers be darned, i love paladin.

My answer is always Druid… They do everything.

My personal vote would go towards rogue and priest, rogue because being a rogue main is super cool imo and priest because disc is super fun (again, imo) and spriest is also wicked cool and has a ton of builds and options and utility

But i don’t do m+ so i have no idea how good those classes are at pushing. Just if i was starting up wow fresh and picking a class to dedicate myself to it would be one of those two :sunglasses:

Evokers are new, therefore will be the top of the DPS.

Top of the meters=fun=play Evoker

I also noticed pesky target cap limitations on some Evoker spells, time to campaign to eliminate them.

fury is still a mad fun kick in the teeth

bears are boring as flip, so the same as they have always been

there’s my worst and best

Druids are versatile for sure, but never in the history of the game have all 4 roles performed adequately against their peers in the same patch. So as a druid, you can often be forced into one of those roles or swallow the bitter pill of needing to play extra well just to keep up.

cries in feral

I’m lucky because I’ve mained a resto druid since MoP and quest as guardian. The dps specs have always seemed lackluster to me though, either in power or in its playstyle.

Played Feral and Resto in MoP. Good old days <3
