So the panda food buff and the mechagnome auto heal and combat buff interest me And the negatives are panda is fat and mechagnome has diapers in transmog. What’s the thought in these choices.

Mechagnomes are technically the highest-dps race for many specs, if you care.

Panda racials are very nifty, including reduced fall damage (bounce!) and an additional CC in Quaking Palm. I get a lot of use out of them (especially in Revendreth!!!) and love being a Pandaren monk. To me, Pandaren is the best choice. I’m biased though. Clearly.
I cannot speak too much on Mechagnomes, I don’t have them unlocked yet. I think they are quirky and charming though.
I personally wish I saw more undead and draenei monks. Just because. I wish I saw more monks, period!
What are YOUR thoughts on them, though, OP? What kind of flavor are you going for? Because ultimately it’s up to you. And those two choices are not the only choices.
Panda is the only alliance race for monks. Human is also an okay choice.
The rest just look awful as monks.
But… but… I like my Velf Monk…

It’s okay to like something, even if it’s objectively wrong. 
I like velf for sub rogues and shadow priests though!

Sometimes I feel that way until I see someone with a chef’s kiss worthy transmog and they totally change my perspective. I felt that way about draenei monks in particular until a special talented lady on my server showed me the way.

I’m sure some folks can pull it off. I tend to make some strange choices on race for certain classes too–like Vulpera is my favourite monk race. Something about being a tiny ball of fur that knows martial arts is hilarious to me.
Especially as brewmaster and even more so when folks gripe about not being able to see the tank because I chugged a noggenfogger in a key.

Pandas are bears. They are supposed to be rotund. Skinny bears are sad looking. Of the two races, Pandas are the superior monk choice.

I have race swapped this toon a few times but always swap back. I considered rolling a Vulpera monk with a similar build to the one I have now, with a drunken fire fox theme. But I have to attempt to roll a new character like, 3 or 4 times before I make a breakthrough and stick to it.

Sometimes that happens! I’m still maining the mage. Not really sure why my phone defaulted over to this character today.
Not that I’m complaining. I’ve been leveling her to start pushing keys on horde again anyway.
