Picking a main for War within

Hello friends,I’m not new to wow have played a good amount of expansions but I did take like a 3 year break and I’m kind of stuck. I want to find a class that I really like and enjoy, I’m aware I have to play the game to fully find that. but I want to give a description of what’s important to me and maybe y’all can kind of point me to the right direction based on the upcoming/current expansion?

I played rogue and hunter most of my time on the game these classes are stuck as DPS I’ve heard the game is in need of healers/tanks so I’m definitely not opposed to those roles but I just want a class that has high mobility/survivability and is kind of a lesser played class but needed, I like the idea of a niche class that people want but there isn’t many of them?

This same line of thought goes with the other roles. I’ve played dps most of my life and I think I might like trying out tank or healer so if you have any healers in mind that have cool AOE heals and all the other things listed above I’d love to try it out I’m not worried about difficulty I learn quickly.

And lastly what is the least played role in wow tank/healer/dps? what do you as a player feel we need more of?

To be blunt…

If you want to play the class other people want, and not what you want, you might as well level them all to max and switch when they tell you to.

Edit: Btw, my suggestion is to roll a trial for any class you don’t have to say, 60 or 70 (some where around that) and give ‘em a try. Pick the one that makes you happy, not what’s most needed because that changes patch to patch.

Heard we needed more tanks in pugs and open world but that varies how and what you’ll like to play. :robot::shield:

There is a reason for niche classes and usually that means they aren’t as effective/have a harder rotation. You really would have to test them out to see if it’s something you’d like.

For healers I’d recommend resto druid or holy priest.
For dps I’d recommend sticking with the hunter, for me warlock and paladin have also been “fun”.

The new hero talents will shake it all up soon too so that’s something to consider.

I’ve never played a tank so I can’t comment too much on it, but I feel like there’s always a shortage of tanks.

Do a druid.

Druid is best.
Druid is many classes
Druid is all classes
Druid is stealth
Druid is flight
Druid is best.

Play a rogue.
Be different. Even if it is old hat for you.

Monk. Definitely Monk.

Highly mobile and you can play all three roles. Not highly played either - for whatever reason. And, as an added bonus – if you roll a Panda, you get the best dance in the game.

Also, with the pre-patch event, you can level from 1-70 in about 6 hours (many are doing it in less, but 6 seemed realistic for me).

Healers and tanks are always needed, especially if you will pug the odd dungeon or raid.

In terms of what to play, up to your preference. The easiest healers to play and learn would be resto shaman and holy priest. Shaman recently got a rework so it is in not to bad a spot right now. Resto druid is usually a very good healer too but more difficult to play as you need to ramp up the HoTs and be a bit proactive instead of reactive.

One recommendation I will throw out there too is monk. They can play tank, healer and melee dps. I tried to play all healers in DF and that one was by far the most fun for me. You melee dps to heal more or less (also has a range healing build too if you choose).

This. Just play what you enjoy. If you’re looking to try some new roles, I recommend druid, monk, or pally. Of the three, pally is the most straightforward healer and druid is the easiest tank. All three have fairly simple dps specs.

This is what I was going to recommend. A lot of people sleep on monk, because traditionally, it has been a more difficult to play class for somewhat mid results.

That’s not necessarily true in the latest iteration of monk. All 3 specs are good and really not all that challenging to play. It’s a bursty class with satisfying button presses. It’s like a toned down paladin, TBH. Not toned down on performance, but a little less flashy. Some people will want that pop, but I find that monk gets it done and it’s pretty easy to play now.

I think a lot of people would find it pretty satisfying.

I’m playing a Druid (mainly Feral and Guardian) because of all the people complaining about the tank and healing changes; I saw a great opportunity to take their spots.

Mistweaver Monk might be what you want. Monks in general are a rarer played class ((though really don’t expect that other people will treat you like you’re this unique and awesome snowflake or anything lol)) and idk about their durability but afaik they have great mobility being monks. To be honest, even classes with good durability skills need to learn to use them at the right time which takes practice and can be easier said than done.

But you might have to just meditate and study/try out for yourself and learn how specs really work in the nitty gritty mechanical level to know if you like them or not. Not ‘I think I’d like this because when I was 5 I drew a picture of a Rogue’ or something. This game can be fun but it was also designed by heartless lawyers that like spreadsheets and math over treating people with respect so a lot of times the class you like is what plays the best logically/mechanically for you not what you think you’d like in your own heart. I really like the playstyle of Affliction Warlock for example… not what I thought I would like but it’s probably what I’m going to main in the expansion.

Do you prefer a rotation that’s more dynamic or less dynamic, more difficult or easier etc.

YOu will never be happy playing a class others want you to play. You seriously need to find what is fun for you go that route.

OR get a dice and chance it out.

for melee dps , dk is doing well plus the tank spec is also good. for range dps you cannot go wrong with mage . as a healer shaman is strong

OP has a very interesting name.

Druids can fill any role. Can’t go wrong if you are looking for flexibility and viability.

Paladins and Monks can also fill any role besides ranged DPS.

beep boop calculating OP’s requirements

Answer is… Monk!

Zippy high-movement DPS spec.
High mobility.
Still one of the least played classes.

that doesnt work you need a lot of time playing a toon to know what you like or not, i’d say start with the fantasy you like, then go from there

Low played, highly desired classes don’t really exist. If you want to feel needed, just roll a healer. Easiest to get into pug m+ and raid as heals. Easy to get into m+ as tank too, but not as easy to get into raids as a healer (still pretty easy)

suggestion for ya… make a few characters on panda express mode (even though theres only a few day left) its super fast and easy to level up. I managed to get 2 70s yesterday from creation in under 40 minutes.

I did have a buddy that zoomed me thru dungeons and there is a method to fast leveling that everyone knows about of not looting the xp item but everything else from bosses and at certain levels, go to your mailbox and open all your xp items (you can insta 70 super fast).
