I’m wanting to go range/melee dps from now into the next expansion. I’m thinking Druid or shaman. What are some opinions.
Classes that have both melee and ranged dps are shamans, druids, and hunters. Sort of mages because arcane is melee for its aoe damage. Some people consider Unholy dk a hybrid ranged/melee but I don’t.
Make a trial of both classes and see what you like? Though last I looked a while ago, the trial spec was limited to one thing, so maybe not a best option.
I never got the hang of shaman, but I love the flexibility of Druid. But then I love the fast shapeshift.
Of those options I go shaman as it has more potential for growth each expansion to regain what was removed but if blizzard screws up something during a revamp it’s probably not going to get patched right away.
Druid is probably not going to change very much from it’s current state although with the new talent trees it’s possible feral and guardian could see a small return to their past glory, personally though feral sound effects that got added in BFA are really bad and can disappoint some people.
You can do whatever kind of content you want with either if you dedicate enough time to the class.
in the next expansion you should play Drakthyr, as for right now i’d say Shaman has the best of both worlds, Druid is only really good on the Boomie side, the rest is underwhelming.
Enhancement shaman has both ranged and melee attacks.
She is both fun and interesting to play.
But remember with the talent tree all bets will be off.
Play a Survival Hunter and do both, in the same spec, sometimes at the same time!

Damn I wish I could fight in melee range as BM or MM…

Well you can but just not with a melee weapon. Maybe some day all Hunter specs will be melee or ranged. Then eveyone would be happy. Except Blizzard. Because they would constantly be hounded for balancing the specs.
Is there a third option I am unaware of? 
I usually play a tank or healer but for DPS I do rather enjoy my warlocks and hunters more so than the other dps classes.
