I don’t plan on making the choice because I don’t like any of the themes. I also don’t agree with any of the philosophies of the factions. I think it’s a rotten story and it’s immoral how they turn souls into currency and power.
Tear it all down, that’s the choice I want. Vote none of the above. Congrats, Blizzard, you’ve set up a system where the “villains” are more right than the “heros”.
I don’t get why everyone is like “pick the one you just like the aeasthetic of cause they’ll get changed” or “just pick one and stick with it and it’ll get changed” because chances are, they won’t. Have you ever played WoW? Things can literally go from 6 months to a couple of years with no changes whatsoever and it’s for this reason I have zero faith in their ability to keep these abilities fun and balanced across all three specs for each class. They have also already said in interviews/posts that they will NOT be making any large changes to soulbinds/abilities until big patches - to try and prevent people feeling like they need to swap abilities frequently.
For example, I just leveled up my shaman, and when it came to picking my convent in the back of my mind I had night fae as I loved that aesthetic for him. However, when it came to trying out Fae transfusion actually really disliked it as it was weak and clunky plus I didn’t need wild shape at all due to having Ghost wolf + Spirit wolf. So even though I love Night Fae and their aesthetics/Lore, I just couldn’t bring myself to pick Night Fae because I would be stuck with those abilities for ages.
I went through each of the other convents and I just kind of crossed off Kyrian and Necrolord because I just didn’t like how their class abilities worked - even though Necrolord for raiding is far superior to all other options. I’ts not about min-maxing, I just want to enjoy the game I play.
It came down to Venthyr’s chain harvest which I honestly really liked so I picked Venthyr, even though I disliked their Lore/Aesthetic for my Shaman. However, I literally never use door of shadows - I personally dislike it and I find little use for it and I wish I could use Fleshcraft for example as I like the shield. So I’m kinda just wasting an ability and it feels so bad because I can’t really see a better alternative.
The point I’m making is, I should be able to choose the convent I want for Lore/Aesthetic reasons AS WELL AS being able to have the abilities I like the feel of in game instead of having to pick one over the other. Let us pick our class ability and signature abilities as we please BUT they have a cooldown of a day/week/whatever, and keep the soulbinds tied to the convent. That’s all we want, and it literally would only make the game better for so many players struggling with these choices.
I wish this was true, but if you are even slightly competitive in Arena and also interested in raiding/M+, you have to choose where you be more effective. That sucks, but I get it.
I highly doubt that when the arena season starts, you’ll see everyone using the ‘best covenant’ for their class. Likewise for M+ and raiding. The abilities offer some power, but not enough to make a real difference.
This is entirely a player-made concept created by meta-trolls. If you want to slave to the meta, by all means, but you don’t have to.
I agree and this is why I decided to unsub and wait a month or so before even touching this expansion, I refuse to join a covenant and later down the road have to switch due to some massive nerfs or buff to other covenant and I hope that a month will be enough to get pass the “Balancing” phases that all expansion go through.
In the end its fine since I got other games to play.
For the most part, Blizzard already made the choice for you because certain combinations were obviously made better than others for certain specs/roles. Its is like they made certain abilities suck on purpose for certain roles.
Choice of covenant is largely an illusion: like most everything else Ion presides over. In fact his entire tenure has been about taking choice away and streamlining the game while convoluting systems in an effort to distract the player base from noticing how linear their path through the game has become.
Exactly. And why this even needs to be explained is beyond me. Some class abilities for certain specs are flat out amazing, and some signature abilities for certain classes are also flat out amazing. Usually these do not align and only favor certain classes.
It’s not about min maxing. Its not about meta. It’s not cause we just want to be annoying.
We just want to be able to pick the abilities and create the combos that we personally like the best, and that work the best for our classes/specs. Why is this such a hard concept to understand an support? The fact this is even an argument is insane - it doesn’t affect you at all if you’re fine with your current convent abilities but it will only help people who want that option and will make it easier for you later if you do decide you wish to change and combine abilities.
yup it sucks, this whole system sucks imo should of just listened to everyone and giving us a new talent row with all the cov abilities and just let us spec differently, after going through the story there is 0 freaking reason to lock us behind this crap. player choice? yeah bs
Exactly. They are using so much time and effort to try and balence things that could esaily just have been… talents.
All they needed to do was have the Raid tier sets, Legendaries, conduits to all act as our burrowed power. Then just add 2-3 new talent rows, a new talent column and let us pick TWO talents from each row. The entire player base would’ve been STOKED.
But now look what we have, another 5 layers of burrowed power that they’re going to need to do ALL OVER AGAIN NEXT EXPANSION. When the hell are they going to learn this isn’t where all their time and energy should be spent.
Its interesting since I’m already experiencing complications in playstyle just from having one soulbind tree for three specs and being forced to choose between pve and pvp covenants. I’m a little worried about how it’ll feel in two weeks when I’m trying out raid and rated pvp in two weeks.
