Picking a Covenant isn't fun

Absolutely disagree.

Cancelling out your vote. lol

I … can’t decide. This is truly stressful.

Thankfully for me Bastion is pretty much the best covenant for all 3 monk specs. So it was an easy choice for me.

But I did laugh at the cinematic before you choose, where everyones talking about how it’s more important than ever to work together. Before the Archon chimes in to say we have to dedicate ourselves to one of them

I thought they did pull the ripcord, more or less?

I had to let go of the meta… I chose my covenant for my warrior, Venthyr, based on the armor set - almost exclusively. I liked the Ardenweald abilities most and I liked the Maldraxxus zone / story / quests most.

I will admit … it did cause a little bit of anxiety though. I’m glad I chose it and opened up the selection for my alts. My HMT druid went Night Fae without a hesitation or a thought.

We’ll see how I like this over the long term. So far, so good IMO.

No. They basically admitted that they lied about it ever existing in the first place. If the ripcord had been pulled, you could have swapped soulbinds/covenant ability without having to sacrifice your covenant story.

You do know Ret paladin covenants are are within like ~200 dps or so of each other right? Unless you pick necrolord that’s the “wrong” covenant as it’s dps is lower. Pick what you like and go

Not all choices are equal.

People wanted: choose to be a Sylvie loyalist or rebel for the horde (and actually have it matter)

People got: Choose 1/4 of the cool new abilities /mogs/pets and hope your new gang offers you good stuff for all the content you do or roll 4 identical characters.

Unfortunately with the exception of very few classes/specs necrolord seems to be bottom of the barrel for most people.

Kind of sucks because I love the look of the zone and transmog set and would have chosen that but the execute from venthyr is better and easier to use on my warrior.

Its not a choice because one of them will give you the best DPS and that’s going to be the meta, So there is no choice at all unless you are content with doing no group content and just limiting yourself to solo stuff.

Nobody is going to bring a player who intentionally lowers their numbers.

Yes there is. The “meta” isnt a requirement, its a choice. A good player choosing one that lost them 50 dps will still crush a average player who went the optimal route

Having fun with the venthyr. Just pick the one you want, unless you are a mythic raider it doesn’t really matter.

I just pick stuff at random and put it on the bar where I don’t see it. I’m only doing covenant crap because I have no choice in the matter. They even force an icon on your screen if you don’t put it in your main bar.

I don’t want covenants and I’ll only do their content if I’m forced to do it and can’t proceed without it.

And completely optional.

They’re not supposed to be.

That’s what makes the choice significant. Not all classes are equal, not all races are equal, and yet I don’t see folks rioting when they have to make those choices. But even when Blizzard said “Hey, if you don’t like your choice, we’ll give you the option to change to something better.” it still wasn’t good enough.

Which is why we’re right where we are now. With covenant abilities that have been nerfed to the point where they can be ignored and where conduits don’t really matter as much as they could have. Because rather than accept that there’s a choice that has pros and cons, they’d rather have free swap between everything with no consequence at all.

Blizz could’ve made a meaningful choice to leave them very impactful at the risk of losing customers. Guess that was too much for them.

Handing out constant fixes to gaps in toolkit has been one of the massive problems of how they butchered classes over the years.

There are SUPPOSED to be gaps other classes help fill in a group based game. Team synergy and covering weaknesses or double downing on strengths should be part of the thought on classes.

Making sure every ability fills a gap, so you quickly have no gaps and everyone is the same is how you make classes feel bland and boring.

Not great advice. Being forced to pair trash tier talent points/abilities/conduits with our chosen aesthetic feels horrible.

Some of these abilities go beyond being just bad and literally end up being a deadspot on your bar.

The covenant abilities have been nerfed to the point where they can be ignored for the most part.

During the beta when the covenant abilities were more powerful, I was finding a way to slot them into my rotation and I felt they had an impact. Now? Not at all. I rarely use them, because my standard abilities can burn down most mobs without me needing to touch them.

I’d wager a lot of players out there are probably in the same boat. They’re just not worth pressing now.

You’ll get a small gain, if that, from your covenant abilities and conduits now. So yeah, I stand by what I said, only bother with that if you’re a min-maxer.
