So based on all sorts of things I like in other games (long read, sorry), can you guys pick a spec for me that matches up with what I enjoy?
In Overwatch, I enjoyed:
- Moira, because I liked being able to both DPS and heal, and her kit allowed for a lot of outplay room.
- Sombra, because I liked messing with people in stealth and being able to teleport away any time things got bad.
- Mei (the old version from Overwatch 1), also because I liked messing with people. I enjoyed walling people off from their team and making people angry at me.
- Torbjorn, because I enjoy builders in games, and I liked his theme and personality.
- Symmetra, because again I enjoy builders. Though her theme was kind of boring.
- Baptiste, because he was massive AoE healing, and I enjoyed making my teams immortal.
- Orisa (the old version from Overwatch 1), because I liked her gatling gun, and I liked her orb that pulled people off of ledges.
- Wrecking Ball, because I love physics-based characters, and swinging around was a lot of fun.
- Echo, because I play so many characters in OW I was able to make really good use of her ult. I also get bored playing just one thing, so she solved that a little.
In Guild Wars 2, I enjoyed:
- Engineer, mostly Holosmith using hammer. I enjoy techy themes, and it had big, weighty feeling animations and flashy effects.
- Revenant, mostly Demon form and the one from End of Dragons that had two forms in one. I enjoyed dual swords, staff and greatsword as weapons. It’s like a juggernaut that just runs at people and can’t be stopped, especially with the demon form.
- Elementalist, focusing on fire and earth. I used dual dagger weapons. I enjoy magic, especially fire magic, and I could play a melee mage with daggers.
- The Asura race. I like small, cute races, and they were mega nerds to boot.
In Wildstar I enjoyed:
- Spellslinger (healer version), it was just a cool theme, and I enjoyed the mix of burst and HoT healing.
- Medic (healer and DPS), it was a melee healer pretty much, and I had to do damage to maintain my resource I spent on healing.
- Esper (healer), I think psychic themes are cool, and the spell effects were pretty.
- The Aurin race, because they were cute cat girls. Though I would have played Chua if they weren’t on the Dominion faction.
In Marvel Rivals I enjoyed:
- Rocket Raccoon, I enjoy the techy theme, and I enjoy his personality. He’s also really mobile, and the bouncing healing orbs let me be creative with angles.
- Peni Parker, again the builder / techy theme.
- Iron Man, again I enjoy the tech.
- Namor, I enjoy builders once again.
- Punisher (mostly because of his turret)
- Adam Warlock, I like paladin vibes, and he’s got them at 1000%. I also liked how he healed differently than other healers in the game, and I had to actually think about how to use my healing charges.
- Mantis, because I enjoy nature themes, and I thought she was cute.
- Captain America, because he just runs at people and doesn’t die, you cause chaos in the enemy back line and mess with people.
In League of Legends I enjoyed:
- Yuumi (my highest mastery), because she’s a cute cat with a cute voice over, but also because she has a deceptively high skill curve, and you can get a lot of value out of her kit that people wouldn’t expect.
- Pyke, because I love pirates, and his kit also rewards skill. Plus I can steal kills with my ult and not be trolling.
- Garen, because I can just be a dork and ignore everything and run at people. Plus his ult is cool.
- Poppy, mostly because she’s cute. But, like Garen, I enjoy being able to just run at people while being tanky enough to ignore most things coming at me.
- Hwei, because he has big, flashy magic.
- Varus, because I can one shot people with his combo.
- Lulu, because she’s cute, and because I enjoy how versatile she is.
- Kayle, because I like paladin / angel themes, and she has pretty spell effects.
- Zoe, because she’s cute, and she has a lot of creative outplay potential.
- Akshan (especially his E), I enjoy his personality, and his grapple is really fun.
- Veigar, because I enjoy the one shot damage he has.
- Jayce, because he has a lot of variety in his gameplay.
- Gangplank, because I like pirates, and he also has high skill rewards.
In Monster Hunter World, I enjoyed:
- Switch Axe (my favorite by far), because I love greatswords, and I love how flashy and explosive it is. Especially the move where you latch onto a monster, stab the sword into it, then sit there and rev it up until it blows up.
- Charge Blade, also because it’s flashy and cool looking. I like big, hard hitting weapons, and it has multiple forms so has a higher skill ceiling.
- Insect Glaive, because it’s silly.
- Gunlance – explosions, need I say more?
In FFXIV (Final Fantasy 14, the MMO), I enjoyed:
- GNB, because it had a lot of explosive spell effects, and the personality of the class is kind of flippant and arrogant, which I enjoy.
- RDM, similar to GNB, I enjoy the personality of the class. It’s also a melee mage.
- DRK, because I like greatswords and dark magic, and I like the theme of the class, turning away from normal ideas to better protect others.
- SCH, because the fairy is cute, and I like having a pet that can heal.
In Helldivers, I enjoyed the Scythe (the laser beam gun) and the laser cannon, because they have infinite ammo if used properly, and they look cool.
In shooters I gravitate toward snipers and DMRs and try to play from a distance, but if I get frustrated I switch to silenced SMGs with stealth perks and just run at people.
In RPGs I gravitate towards magic, mixed with melee if possible. If no magic is available, I like a balanced weapon that hits hard but doesn’t sacrifice too much in terms of maneuverability and speed – though if there’s a big weapon available that isn’t too clunky to use, I’ll always jump on that instead. I like swords over other fantasy weapons, axes and maces just feel too brutal.
I love games like Zelda (particularly Minish Cap and Twilight Princess) and Mario (particularly Sunshine), because they can have serious stories without being super grimdark and edgy, and I love RPGs in general. I love metroidvanias like Hollow Knight and Metroid Fusion, because I enjoy that feeling of exploration, and I like the creative ways you can approach content.
I tend to like classes and characters that evoke a flippant attitude, and who kinda mess with whoever they’re fighting, and don’t act serious at all but secretly pay attention to a lot more than you’d think. Like the dumbass thing is a facade.
I love magic, but I like magic that’s not structured, and is more “primordial” than like an invention of people, you know?. I have a fondness for fire, light and dark magic. I also like psychic themed magic and being able to throw things and enemies around.
I usually try to avoid killing if I can help it in games, because I feel bad for the NPCs. I’ll try to stealth in games that allow it, or talk my way out of fights in games that allow it. If I can use non-lethal methods, I will always use them. In a game that prevents stealth, or just simply doesn’t support it, I usually go for overwhelming one shot type gameplay.
Based on all that, what class, or spec, would you pick?
