Physical Authenticator

So some time ago, I was given a free physical authenticator as part of a trial program of some sort, of which I dont really remember the specifics as this occurred in early Cataclysm.

Anyway, consider this was a solid ten years ago, my concern is that the battery life on these things is only rated for seven years. Now, I’ve tried the mobile authenticator and I prefer the physical one. This issue here is that Blizzard has long since stop selling the physical authenticators on the store. So I’m on a countdown here with an unknown amount of time remaining.

HOWEVER! The authenticator itself is a rather common model. Its a Vasco Digipass Go 6. These sell new on ebay for a few bucks each. They are not branded with Blizzard in anyway, but they do have serials on the back, same as the Blizzard ones.

Would it be possible to buy a generic unbranded ones to continue to use a physical authenticator when the rapidly approaching end of my current authenticator lifespan is reached?

Highly doubtful, but this is more of a question for developers. They aren’t in this forum often, so you may want to try using General Discussion instead.

I bought the authenticators, and they do not work. I am getting an error that the serial numbers are invalid.

I don’t think Blizzard has been selling the authenticators for some time, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to. As a forum volunteer, I can’t assist you with this. I recommend opening a ticket with the staff.

Physical authenticators are no longer in production, but some online vendors may still sell them. As long as the device has battery, and is an official product, it will work with our systems.

Cheers!
