They took this same gamble with legion pruning and everyone loved legion. They see wow Classic was majorly successful in a modern market. The game needs to move into a gameplay first direction rather than years of spells and complexity caked on each other over and over each expansion because 10+ year sweat players don’t want to lose a spell from their spell book.
Obviously there’s going to be kinks to work out and that’s what feedback is for. But this had to happen.
WoW has competition coming with that new mythic+ styled game “Fellowship” as well which is way simpler and easier to get into than WoW. They need to evolve with the times.
